Good progress Dave, that’s bloody cheap for laced rims including the spokes in SS. In fact a veritable bargain

Soz bout that, hurriedly typing whilst dashing about

Soon as I know I’ll let you know, not sure yet but he’s doing one in brass first to see if it’s doable rather than casting. Not sure if it’s economical or not but I’ve got one lurking somewhere if you need one, I’ll have a look later as in the shed of dreams putting the thermostat on the VFR.

Just for info, I’m currently looking into getting some made, we’ve a blank being offered soon from a pattern one that was submitted to a chsp abwhilevago. Not sure on time lines but it sounds promising.

Just so you know.

Already on the list Bryan and you’re completely right on the fault, same on the VFR’s.
Apparently is a common fault across a heap of manufacturers, especially the Suzuki’s and Aprilia’s. Thanks for the heads up tjough pal.

That’s my thinking tbh but without popping it off I can’t be sure. Hoping to get into it once the vans sorted Thursday. They’re a pig to get to as well aren’t they

Typical lol, keep you posted though

Rose hit 109 degrees today in Bath in the rain which was a surprise, think she needs a good look. Might just need burping but I think it’s the rad cap leaking air causing the pressure to drop and not pull fluid from the overflow back to the rad as there’s no hiss when you open the cap. It is 22 years old after all and she’s been ridden quite hard over the years with some monster miles on her now so wouldn’t surprise me but I’ll do the full checks and see what the coo is.

I have yet to read about anyone on here using the newish waterless coolant on a bike - its better than water for it's cooling properties - just wish it was about in the 1970's when my Cooper S overheated in London.
I had it in my Ducati and the ZX-7R I had Ted, I haven’t put it back into the VFR yet as still fiddling but I will it’s awesome stuff. My pal has it in all his race bikes; crossers and road bikes and works brilliantly. Its only downfall is the cost but it all depends on what you want out of a coolant where you are. I shouldn’t think the lads up in the Orkney Islands wouldn’t need it but it’s common to find bikes in the continent and the states using it for obvious reasons

That's great news to get a rocking horse part like that. The power of the forum.
Good work Roo
How's the mighty Viffer performing following it's head transplant?
In the end he got a full set up from a mate of his that was cafe-ing his bike so still got a complete set up here for another member should they need one. Like you say though, power of the forum rocks doesnt it?

Ehyup Dave, like a train thanks and hadn’t missed a best although a bit like a ‘slithery train’ whilst out today  in this manky weather. Tractors, mud, diesel all over today…..eek!

I’ve been over in the states for a month and whilst away the body control unit in the van decided to have a bad hair day so until it goes in on Thursday to the auto electricians I’m on the bike. Bbbbrrrrr!

I am however, having overheating issues so about ready to go back in there and see what the coo is. There’s a number of things to check and hoping it shouldn’t be too bonkers but it’s an interesting fault.

It’s only doing it in traffic and as you know, they run hot anyway. It it’s creeping up there but more than it should so it’s either rad cap, cracked transfer pipe, thermostat, water pump or thermostat switch on the fan. Bit to check but I should get it.

Another winter on it has taken its toll on the  fasteners and a few are buggered so the plating bath is needing to come out at some point but it can wait a while yet. Really chuffed with the engine though as like I say, running like an absolute train with a flick of the wrist. How’s yours after effectively de-tuning it for the LEV. Any noticeable difference?
