Desperately Seeking!! / Re: Air box assembly. Got One.
« on: March 04, 2024, 10:18:49 PM »
Ehyup Dave, like a train thanks and hadn’t missed a best although a bit like a ‘slithery train’ whilst out today  in this manky weather. Tractors, mud, diesel all over today…..eek!

I’ve been over in the states for a month and whilst away the body control unit in the van decided to have a bad hair day so until it goes in on Thursday to the auto electricians I’m on the bike. Bbbbrrrrr!

I am however, having overheating issues so about ready to go back in there and see what the coo is. There’s a number of things to check and hoping it shouldn’t be too bonkers but it’s an interesting fault.

It’s only doing it in traffic and as you know, they run hot anyway. It it’s creeping up there but more than it should so it’s either rad cap, cracked transfer pipe, thermostat, water pump or thermostat switch on the fan. Bit to check but I should get it.

Another winter on it has taken its toll on the  fasteners and a few are buggered so the plating bath is needing to come out at some point but it can wait a while yet. Really chuffed with the engine though as like I say, running like an absolute train with a flick of the wrist. How’s yours after effectively de-tuning it for the LEV. Any noticeable difference?

They look well, subtle colours and not the obligatory chrome finish

I did just that with my frame as you know Ken, only from your recommendations mind. Wax oil in everything, holes in the bottom rails and all the gaps welded up before powder coating. Looks much better now and hopefully won’t rot as bad as standard.

I’d recommend you get some aquarium heaters, one for your plating solution, one for your pasivate solution also. Secondly, I didn’t know you were using a home brew kit, I started that way and soon gave up on that, you simply can’t get accurate doses of ingredients so stuffing your results. You can buy 5 litres of plating solution on the inter webs , I’ll have a look later for you and bob some links up, just use that, it’s a constant that really has to be spot on all the time. Small bottle of blue or yellow pasivate and some brightener and your away.

What power source are you using, do you have a controllable bench supply allowing you to change the voltage if required? If not, that could be another reason why your bits come out dull but in all honesty it could be anything in your set up that’s not playing how it should. There’s just a few rules to follow but once it clicks it’s very satisfying and you can save heaps of money.

Drop me a pm if you need some help mate. Not sure where aboots you are in Canada but I’m in the states at the min so happy to chat but it would have to be through wattsapp or similar

I think the parts were not clean and also maybe the temperature was a bit low. To get bright zinc coating the passivate, electroplate solution and water for rinsing really effect the finish. As does a touch of brightener in the fluid you plate in, the results will be far better and shiney. Ash is yer man but your bits should be as
 shiney as the enclosed…..

Actually if you can lock the front with a single disc, (which I know you can), it begs the question the benefit of fitting a double disc setup, or am I missing the point?
I’ll get me coat!🫣🫣

Cos twin discs look ‘the shizzle’ and balance the front end a bit in terms of looks IMO. Plus it’s more bling to dazzle the chicks outside the all girls school bus stop when you rumble by looking all macho
Each to their own. I disconnected the abs on the VFR for a while a few years back and the brakes were no where near as good but like I say, each to their own and soon rigged it all back up again and to be fair, EBC discs, carbon Lorraine sintered pads, braided lines and better levers, they bloody should be
