Desperately Seeking!! / 400/4 Carb bits
« on: November 13, 2022, 02:09:52 PM »
Mmm, I seen to have lost the following:

1. 2 off nuts from the choke control rods (slim M7)
2. 2 off caps that are on the same shaft that retain the felt washers.

Anyone got those parts they want to part with?

Tricks & Tips / Zinc Plating
« on: November 05, 2022, 06:04:19 PM »
I decided to re-plate a few parts yesterday and I thought I would yellow passivate the relevant carb parts. The results were poor and dull, so I tried blue passivate followed immediately followed by the yellow - and the results were fine.

As you can see it turned out OK but I've probably done something you shouldn't!! (In fact I removed the old yellow passivate in the acid bath and quickly re-passivated  - again, probably a no no!  ::) )

Anyone tried a water based lacquer on the passivate - supposedly allows it to last 10 times longer - I will research this....

CB350/400 / Speedo dial (and Tacho) dial fixing screw
« on: October 25, 2022, 03:54:31 PM »
Well, I've spent too long looking for the 4 screws that secure the dial to the mechanism >:(
Anyone know the size of the thread. It looks like M2 but could be M2.2

Of course, once sourced and fitted, the little blighters will surface!!

CB350/400 / Carb adjustment limiter?
« on: October 24, 2022, 05:29:03 PM »
I understand what the little plastic (?) adjuster limiter (that covers the mixture screw) does but every set of carbs I have seen seems to be missing them. Is there a reason or is it one of those things that the items are not necessary? Or get lost at service time and never replaced? Just a thought!

CB350/400 / Strange jets on 400/4 carbs
« on: October 23, 2022, 04:26:49 PM »
I'm fairly certain the spare set of carbs I have (that are in the process of being restored) have never been opened up. On dismantling there are a couple of jets that look very strange.
They are straight but the 'holes' look to be crushed - most peculiar.  I hope you can see from the photo attached. Any thoughts? Needless to say they won't be going back in!

CB350/400 / 400F Throttle plate on carbs.....
« on: September 05, 2022, 06:19:30 PM »
There is a shaft on the plate that holds the carb bodies together. This shaft has the throttle quadrants on it.
I would like to remove this shaft from the plate to re-plate the quadrants. Is it held in place with a brass pin?  - ie does this require drilling out?

Tricks & Tips / Anti-sieze options
« on: July 29, 2022, 02:59:50 PM »
When fitting s/steel fasteners to our bikes, do most of you use a copper based ant-seize grease or a nickel based one.

I have been using Copaslip for years but wondered if Nickelslip or similar was a better option....

CB350/400 / Fuel lines from carbs
« on: July 11, 2022, 06:17:37 PM »
Could someone tell me how long these lines are that are labelled (2)

Do they just 'dangle down' in case of an overflow?
Item (1) was very hard and difficult to remove but I can replicate that one easily.

CB350/400 / 400 Chain Guard question...
« on: July 08, 2022, 05:19:22 PM »
Attached are a couple of pictures of my chain guard and I'm wondering if the  highlighted 'kink' is meant to be there or not.
I have another one which doesn't have this, however, I'm unsure which one is original.

CB350/400 / Airbox removal!
« on: June 15, 2022, 05:58:07 PM »
I'm sure there is a technique to remove this over complicated contraption from the frame but for the life of me I can't see how.
I have it loose and both the air filter intake and the carb oval tube are removed as are all (?) bolts.

Anyone got any tips?

(BTW, I wanted to remove it as it is the only rusty part on the bike and I need to get some other bits powder coated. What seemed like a good idea at the time, has now escalated!!

CB350/400 / DS Pattern silencer
« on: June 12, 2022, 05:56:07 PM »
Hi, Is it possible to fit the silencer to a 400/4 with the down pipes installed or is it best to work from the silencer back to the cyl head?
I ask as I'm struggling to get the silencer 'aperture' (where the captive nuts are) over the frame loop. I have managed to sort the packing sleeve out on the silencer but I'm struggling to get the unit into position with the down pipes on the bike.
