I am having a problem posting pictures, when i attach them when i try to post an error message says my session has timed out, even though it has only been a minute. when i try to repost my pictures disappear altogether. Help please!

Tricks & Tips / polishing thread?

I am in the process of polishing my engine covers which job i have done before and got acceptable results, until i saw Oddjobs standard! My trouble is removing the scratches before polishing, i have tried different methods but unless i spend hours with wet or dry paper they remain to taunt me. Lots of tips have been posted but when you need them its hard to remember who or where, and i dont have much luck with the search facility. Would a thread to put everything together help us mortals to soak in the knowledge of the polishing gurus.

Has anyone got an original air box, the bit the filter fits in? i have a 550 one i could use but would like the proper one. Also need just one airbox to carb rubber, one of the centre two shorter ones. They are available aftermarket but would like an original. Thanks in advance.

Due to lack of use and needing funds for my other project i have decided to sell my 550 f2. It is in decent condition having had lots of money spent over the last few years, see my thread meet my new 550. It has had rebore and valve guides/ head refurb by Trigger, just about run in now, i will do a oil and filter change soon. There are still some areas to improve, the paint on the tank is not great, but would not embarrass you at a bike meet and has the usual honda clutch rattle at tickover. I would like £3,500 for it or near offer, PM me if you want any more details.

I need a final drive sprocket cover for Lazarus as the one i have just had vapour blasted is too corroded to use, in fact i have never seen one like it with deep pits like rusted iron. dont need the clutch lifter mechanism just the alloy cover. Will buy or swap, i have a spare kidney.

I have one of these from a job lot of 500 parts i bought. It is the bearing retainer for the rear wheel bearing and seems to fit all the 250/350 k0-k4 models. Honda part nos 41231 286 000 in honda bag but a bit tarnished. Anyone who wants it can have it for free as no use to me.

just reassembling my crank cases on lazarus, but can not remember how the oil guide 'a' fits. it seems to fit only one place but looks a bit odd, has anyone got a pic of it in place?

Had a morning off today so thought i would take my 550f2 for a cheeky spin, the first outing this year! so checked the tyres etc and started it up, but only fired on 3 cyls, no 3 not sparking. of course its awkward to remove but tried it on the side of the engine and sure enough dead as a dodo. Ok so plugs do wear out but i have had this problem before with my 500/550 bikes, where after being stood for a while and even if it was running fine when last used, one plug decides not to play. I always use NGK and have very few miles on them so what is the answer, do i change brand?

I seem to have a surplus of seats for 500/550 which are taking up space so need to move them on. There is a 500 four repro seat with the plastic base which i bought from a forum member, it looks new or near new and i did try it on my 550 for size and seems to fit well. I would like to get my money back so £100. I also have a repro 550 f1/f2 seat, it does look good but tried it on my bike and did not fit without some fettling so £40. Thirdly i have a cafe racer style with a rear hump that fits the same bikes, has a small split but looks ok, £25. will post pics soon

Misc / Open / preparing parts for zinc plating

Hi i have some parts for zinc plating, carb parts and bolts etc. I have read some old posts but i am unsure how to prepare for the replating, do i need to strip the old plate or will the plating firm do it? i am not keen on chemical mixing like Ash suggests so up to now i am just wire brushing to a clean surface.

Project Board / The rebirth of Lazarus

Due to popular demand i have called my 500 four "Lazarus". As some of you have seen in my other posts it was in very poor condition, many parts are past any hope, the engine is seized so not a great start. Originally i was going to leave it for a later date but decided to strip it down to better store it. well that poor bike had been horribly abused in the past so i feel it is my duty to bring Lazarus back to life. It will need all the usual stuff, engine and wheels rebuilt and lots of replacement parts, and the wiring... well it consisted of lots of odd connections and tape and all of the block connectors had been chopped off. Will need a new wiring loom complete. The first job will be to strip to the frame and get it de rusted and painted, so here we go again!

well the devil came and made me do it. I prefer the look of the 500 rather than the 550 f2 that i already own but cant afford to buy a good example, soooo here it is......

Misc / Open / tank de-rust

Ok i know it has been covered before but it is doing my head in! I have de- rusted the interior of my spare tank using phosphoric acid as recommended by Ashimoto. It works very well leaves it completely clean metal. The issue i have is it rusts again overnight, and had the same problem with my old tank. So these are the methods i have used with no success. If i flush with clean water then with petrol, it rusts. If i let dry without flushing the phosphoric acid it leaves a black tar like substance which only cleans off using more acid. I also tried swilling some diesel around and still it rusts! I don't want to line it as most people on here are dubious about them so what do i do? when the tanks are new they dont flash rust so why does it happen?
