if I look at the same angle as Lester's I can see daylight between tyre and mudguard.

cant tell for sure from photo but yours does seem to be similar to mine, I am sure my old one hugged the tyre more closely.

Its fine width wise its the height above the tyre that's the issue. tyre is 325/19 as standard. When I look from the side I can see the top of the tyre and a gap under the mudguard, have got a pic but not able to post it.

CB500/550 / front mudguard fit« on: December 01, 2013, 11:48:37 AM »
Hi all the 500/4 rebuild has stalled a bit due to no time or money but I did spend a bit of time the other day trying to fit the front mudguard. Problem is it is one I bought from ebay, in very good condition but seems to be slightly too big. Mountings fit fine to the forks but there seems to be a big gap between the tyre and mudguard, so much so I thought the front wheel or tyre was too small but its the same with a spare wheel I have. I could file the mounting holes to modify but don't realy want to, could it be a 750 item, I thought they were interchangeable.

Best to get the proper hose from D silvers as Honda use 5.5mm size which is not a common size.

It does sound like a valve hitting piston so chain off sprocket or cam timing a possibility. also I had a similar problem on a 550 where something was catching the alternator and stopping it from turning so worth checking that also. Oh and never believe the previous owner, they forget/ lie/ don't know what happened before.

I reckon its these small items which cause the cost of restoration to spiral to a level you never expect. the larger items are easy to estimate but all these little bits add up!
