Hi Paul the starter motors should be quiet, it could be the starter clutch, parts are available from D Silvers

Hi Paul 550 k3 settings are (from Honda k3 supplement) main jet 90, air jet 130, slow jet 38, slow air jet 150, jet needle 3rd groove, float height 14.5mm. If you let me have your email address I can send a copy, it has all the info on differences of k3 model, regards Mick

cost is a factor, but the original ones leaked anyway. I too don't remember leaks back in the 70s so try to use genuine parts where possible

I used pattern parts on my 500 and always had a slight overflow every so often, seems to be a common problem.

just be aware the K3 has a different float level to the earlier model at 14.5 mm

I agree with Pete, rejetting is not normally required, but carb problems are very common often taking several stripdowns and lots of trial and error with settings. The K3 especially as I believe they were set quite lean to start with, so good luck!

Its held on by 3 pins which locate in three holes in main casting held secure by little spring clips. Just carefully prise off and new one just pushes on, might need new clips.

Oddjob my wallet is twitching at the thought of the rear mudguard and chrome strip although I too am limited spending wise, PM me a price and I will see if I can raise the cash by selling a grandchild!
