After selling my no 1 bike due to financial problems this is now my only bike so I am hoping (if money situation improves) to restore to a decent condition without too much expense. I think I have most of the parts I need, so am assembling it without restoration to make sure, maybe fit engine and see if it runs! I do need the little spring clip that holds the air filter in place, and one of the little brackets that mount the air filter box to the frame under the seat its the longer one of the two. Will have to be a rattle can paint job to save cash, luckily the frame and swing arm etc have been powder coated already. Might need a set of carbs also as they look pretty bad, wish me luck!

I have had a few pattern parts from D S and find some things are ok like the master cylinders, but some of the trim items are not acceptable, we want exact replicas of the original. I got some tank trims for the 550 K3 I had but they were not even close in shape and did not fit. I did not use them. So mainly use NOS or genuine used items where possible.

Hi Paul the TT100 type tyre uses a different size system, I think the size you need is 360/19 front and 410/18 for rear. Modern avon roadriders are a good tyre, I think the red arrows were discontinued years ago. Cheers, Mick

CB500/550 / sadly selling my 500/4
« on: August 31, 2013, 02:51:07 PM »
Very reluctantly I have to sell my very nice 500/4, only due to some financial problems. It is on ebay, a lot of watchers and 2 bids I really need to get about £2500 but may consider a bit less, it stands me at aprox £3500 so a big loss especially after all the work I have put into it. Not going to give it away Though!!

I am not convinced that air pressure was the cause of this as air pressure from inside the tank would force tank out in an outward direction in all areas so would tend to push the centre tunnel sides nearer rather than further apart. Also compressing the outer part of the tank may sort the outer shape but I doubt it would affect the tunnel area. Is it possible there are different sizes of mounting rubbers to take up the distance?

The K4 250s seem to fetch good money, I have seen quite rough ones on ebay go for over £1000. If anyone has one for £300 I would buy it!

CB350/400 / Re: Brake lever sponginess
« on: August 16, 2013, 09:58:38 AM »
I had problems bleeding my brake last year, just could not get a good firm lever, in the end I left it in disgust, went back a few days later and had a good brake! I think the air bubbles just rise to the top over time, too much bleeding keeps agitating the fluid and adds more air.

Carbs were stripped prior to ultrasonic cleaning and all new rubbers fitted afterwards. I hadn't considered electrical but will check it out. It is better but not perfect yet.
