I bought a complete cb350f kickstart from the USA after giving up trying to get one in the UK. The actual lever was 30mm shorter then a 400/4 lever (I compared the 350 lever with my original 77 400/4 lever ) as I was only after the knuckle the length of the lever wasn't an issue but beware if buying from the US, ask the seller to measure the length of the actual lever before you buy.

You can still buy these new from your local Honda dealer, I bought a few for project 400.

Charlie, Do all you can to keep the bike if possible. This forum is probably full of people who sold their bikes for whatever reason and lived to regret it a few years later. I had a CB160, a CB200, a Matchless 250CSR (stop laughing at the back) and two 400/4's and sold them all but wish I still them. I have a CR750 Rickman Honda that has not been started for at least 12 years, I should have sold it but glad I didn't as it's the next restoration. My advice, unless you really, really have to sell it, keep it. Dave

Hi Piki, I've just order a set of the ignition coil numbers from you via e-bay, thanks for replicating these. BTW, the centre consol arrived and it's great, I'm in the garage right now fitting it along with the restored clocks whilst it rains outside. Sad thing is my partner who I am building the bike for failed her motorcycle test yesterday on the very last thing, we are both gutted! She's going to take it again before winter. At least I get to ride 'her' motorcycle a bit even if it is to run it in! Thanks again for the great service. Regards Dave

Well done on getting to the stage you have done given the time constraints. I am in a similar place with my own 'project 400' and hope to finish in the next couple of weeks. The main issues I've had are pattern parts that don't fit, have been incorrectly described or even genuine parts that have been superseded by poorer quality 'genuine' parts. Having said that if it wasn't for the great people on this fantastic forum offering guidance and knowledge I wouldn't be as far as I am now with the build! I hope you finish yours soon and the sun shines on the first ride, good luck and keep going, it will be worth it Dave

Good luck with build and enjoy the long nights in the shed . One piece of advice though, get the frame checked for alignment before you paint it especially as it's been fitted with another front end. The last two restorations I've completed both had frames that appeared fine but were both out of alignment once placed in a jig. It cost me £80 to have each one checked and straightened. Money well spent, the last thing you want is to finish a build only to find it doesn't handle. You will need to fit the engine (bare crankcases will do,it doesn't have to be together), the swingarm, rear shocks, back wheel and the top and bottom yokes to be really thorough. I used Hybrid motorcycles in Sarratt, Middlesex. Dave

£2k to fill the tank with acid! Maybe I could try a washing up bowl full of coke!! Back in the day when I worked in a train overhaul works I had access to that sort of cleaning kit, and blasters, stove enamelling, zinc and chrome plating, not anymore, those days have well and truly passed

Lovely finish there Trigger. My next project after 'project 400' is the restoration of my Rickman CR750 and it's festering engine. I'll try your method to clean it up. Dave
