Great adventure with lasting memories.
My father spent 4 years in Singapore 1941-45. Changed a bit!

No comments from me except how do you propose checking the frame out? Just close inspection or bar through the headstock.
Keep the info coming as all is very interesting as usual.

Really awful prognosis Phil. Our neighbour came to our door well over two years ago with a similar prognosis for C in back of head/spinal chord. He was going for radiotherapy every day for what seemed a year or more. Still with us and with less regular treatment now and in the garden all the time and cleaning his cars that he can't drive.
Very good of you thinking of the forum to free you of bits and raise some money here.
I see your avatar is going to auction.
Best wishes Phil

Where's My Old Bike? / Re: WFU 84J...... CB750/4 UK K0/K1

I've just noticed something really weird, the reg number on the original photos is ***84J, the number plate on the floor of the garage on the sellers photos is ***48J 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 So it can't be the same bike.
The danger with jumping to conclusions. I remember jojo posted that it was an early KO and s/n 1035xxx just after the listing finished.

My father was all electric with storage heaters. Presume each is on its own spur and remember each was on a switched 20amp dp switched outlet. Also one had an integral fan on a thermostat that was wired into the ring I believe.
I also dismantled one from my gran and put the bits is my car and re-installed it in my father's extension.

This is the bike that was sold in bits on ebay a few weeks ago. Lots of shiny parts I remember.

As no one got the answer. What's going on with the front axle?

I followed Sean's trip and problems at the time. A bit too adventurous for me if I was on my own. Well done.
Did get to Athens on my longest trip with a small group. One Brit bike came back in a van.
Still love travelling in Europe, freewheeling and camping a bit, but in a car for the last 20 years.

Just to confirm delta, the brackets definitely go on opposite sides of the mount. A problem arises as if a lot of two up riding is done the mount can get bent.

Revisiting the fit of the repro 4/4 today after 6 1/2 years as I have my original K0 to compare it with.
The sweep of No. 2 pipe is about 5mm too low along the underside of the bike. This causes the pipe to clash with the nut on the back of the sidestand so that the pipe is too far to the centre of the bike and runs closer to the oil filter case.
I can fit a half nut to the side stand but this will only help fractionally.
No idea if this is representative of pipes made today.

Ok here is my experience of the DSS 4/4. Mine have been fitted a while ago.  Ordered in 2016 (£850 then), but not fitted until early 2017. Three problems: Had to bend the hanger (original Honda bracket) for the lower left to get it in place, Even then the hang at the front end was not entirely correct as the pipes spacing was a little uneven. (no one has spotted it but me): There was a leak of exhaust gas around the 8mm studs that come out of one or two of the silencers so I used a tiny amount of Gun Gum, solved: the main stand stop was about 2cm out, so I made a little extender plate.
Just taken them off for the first time after 6 1/2 years. Only covered 3500 miles but they are still in first rate condition and come up like new.

Ordered a set from Busso this year to assess their quality but their delivery is poor. Was promised 3 months and it's now been 6. Note: They charge 150 Euros for international shipping.

CB500/550 / Re: CB550F side cover rubber grommets
« on: December 21, 2023, 07:35:18 PM »
The grommets are the same AFAIK on all the 500/550s. 17247303000 and  83551300000. Except one of the large ones is turned through 90deg on the Fs and K3.
I had some cheap ones and used a soldering iron to melt a chamfer on them and trimmed them up. But on my best bikes I bought genuine.

6s 8d when I first bought fuel in 1970. Three gallons a £1. According to the Mails inflation calculator £6.53 now, £1.44 per litre. In reality average pay has increased much more than inflation, so petrol is cheaper on the pocket now. And my car does 50MPG whereas the ones I owned in the 70s struggled to get 30.
Here's another couple examples of DS prices from 1995.
Exhausts £75 Ea + 17.5% VAT
Bad news: I bought this bike is 2003 and did a couple of thousand miles on it. Laid it up and did a short winter ride on it when we moved house and didn't look at it for 8 years. All had rusted through around where the headers join the silencers. They had done maybe 3000 miles. Could have got them patched up I suppose, but sold the on ebay for £300 in 2015 and bought a repro set the following year.
