Title: What to do with rusty bolts?
Post by: JustcallmeMrT on November 24, 2014, 08:45:55 PM
How do you guys deal with rusty nuts and bolts?  I'm not talking rusted to the point of damaging structural integrity, but I don't want to put those shabby bolts back in a restored bike!  What's the verdict, send them to be re-plated? Home plating?  Buy new?

Comments and suggestions welcome!

You are not doing a standard bike, so it is easier to replace with stainless. The big bolts will have to be done in zinc. Contact a small firm like TSS fasteners Tina is a very helpful woman and she should be able to help with most of the bolts, nuts and washers.

These guys took all the hassle of sorting / sizing' the various bolts for me; furthermore they offer kits for specific areas, eg carbs, engine sump, engine fixing to frame.... whatever.

All high quality & SS; for extra dosh you can have certain fixings polished.

My main disappointment though was the advertising did not make it clear that many are Allen type head; popular, but not what I was personally after. But if your happy with that, then can't fault them.
