Although I'm still waiting for the ally fuel tank to be made which should be about another 8 weeks I had the remaining parts painted and Pre fit the fairing to make sure the stripes and wording are aligned and look straight.
It will go back to the paint shop tomorrow and finished then lacquered.
All this will need to be stripped to the bare to fit the rebuilt engine, which unlike the original frames should lift in with clearance.

Hi, I did order a 17 punch and it did work ( I hope )
I did this for my other cb750 I'm building but the 17mm holes are so close to the main fire ring it's worrying.
The Cometic gaskets as most contain metal and the punch soon loses sharpness.
Lets say it wasn't as good as I wanted but we'll see.
I can get a Forsetti gasket from Australia.
Options many !

Not easy to ride, also it's heavier and taller than my 1957 Manx which is featherweight.
Noisy but nice
Backaches guaranteed
Oil leaks guarenteed
No kickstart so rollers required. The previous owner had long legs and he bump started it.
He also changed the wheels from steel to ally for a better ride, I still have the original wheels.

The riders in the 30's and 40's were brave boys with average speeds over 80 mph.
My bikes race owner on his pre war Norton bikes notched up faster practise times than the great Freddie Frith in the 30's I have the magazines of the day at the IOM.

Hi, I know the SOHC forum in the USA is different but for some reason I cannot gain access to there forum.
The UK SOHC forum is fine and I used the same username and passwords for both.
When the forgot password button is clicked it says its sending a message to my e mail address but I never receive anything and cant contact anyone to tell them
I'm stumped
This could possibly also happen on the UK SOHC site
Any assistance appreciated   :'(

Thinking on this subject What about this as an option to solve the problem....Any thoughts ???

The 8 larger holes in the cylinder barrel as fitted with later engines are an upgrade to early engines and require knock pins ( sleeves ) and a rubber seal.
Why cant I make 8 small spacers that accurately fit in the larger holes, flush with the head thereby reverting back to the earlier models ?
Does this make sense as although an upgrade from about 1975 there's a lot of engines out there pre 1975.
I could then use the Cometic gasket with the smaller holes.
Thoughts ?

Hi, as its TT time of year I thought I would put a couple of pictures of one my bikes. This 1947 Manx ran on the Isle of Man in 1948 and 1949 coming 19th and 30th in the Junior race 350cc by Jack Blyth
Its other history is still being researched.
In recent years the previous owner registered it and used it on parade runs on the IOM and other events.

CB750 / Bolt size ?
« on: June 14, 2017, 07:32:41 PM »
Anyone know the exact size and length of the bolts that supports the two exhausts at the rear on the original CB750 exhausts
Its about 150mm / 6" or so ?
I could buy them from Silvers but would like to get or make them in stainless steel
Cheers

few more  ;D

Also by putting the dummy engine in I could make sure the spacers for the engine to frame that the Rickman frame uses are perfect fits.
I made and replaced the steel spacers for polished stainless steel ones.

Still no news on the Rickman ally tank being made, officially its still 15 weeks away  :(
Good news the exhaust arrived yesterday so I could not resist sticking the dummy engine in and trial assembly of the exhaust to get an idea of how it looks.
1st impressions are good, this is a 1978/9 Rickman frame and the exhaust is a 1975 style.
I was informed it would fit and luckily it does even down to the rear support bolt being in alignment.
It needs aligning 100 % but looks more than suitable.
As I'm having the bike painted orange and the tank is backorder, I have still sent the fairing and other parts for painting, as the orange is a flat colour it will easily match up with the tank when it arrives.  :D

Enquiries about the head gasket are on going but it appears I can get the correct gasket from japspares  in Australia, its a Forsetti gasket.
836cc big bore kit 65mm bore with 10 in total larger 17mm clearance holes
Anyone know anywhere nearing than the opposite side of the planet ?

Took delivery of the 4-4 system today from D Silvers, first impressions, very nice quality.
Have removed the engine exhaust studs ready for the countersunk screws.
This system is being fitted on my Rickman but I of course need to put the engine in the bike first but I need to sought out a small problem of the head gasket.
After this the rear exhaust brackets will need to be made.
