Misc / Open / Re-line or aftermarket replacements?
« on: August 23, 2021, 02:28:37 PM »
Hello All,

I need new CB750K brake shoes.

I guess new OEM are NLA. I see DS do an aftermarket alternative which are very reasonably priced.

However would I get better performance and fit from relined original shoes?

Many thanks.

Misc / Open / Painter West Midlands/ Staffordshire
« on: August 17, 2021, 06:42:28 PM »
Hi All,

I am looking for recommendations for paint specialist in the Midlands, ideally someone that has painted candy blue/ green before.

I would prefer someone local if possible as there is quite a bit to paint - tank, fork ears, headlamp shell, side panels, air box plus oil tank and chain guard in black.

Many thanks,

Kevin

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Which dwell meter?
« on: October 27, 2019, 09:40:02 AM »

I am still running on the Honda points ignition system as I find reliable and requiring very little maintenance. I use strobe timing now and saw a significant improvement over the bulb method. I also have set the points gap with feeler gauges but I can see a more accurate setting would be achieved with the dwell accurately measured.

Is anyone on the forum using a dwell meter? If so which brand and from where

Many thanks,

Kevin

CB750 / Mirrors to see behind a fat guy
« on: April 03, 2019, 12:43:36 PM »
At 6’3” and a 48” chest the standard mirrors ain’t designed to see around my bulk :-\

Anyone experience of a suitably period mirror (don’t need to be OE replicas) with longer than OE stems? I am using European spec bars which are nice and comfy, I just can’t see behind me.

Cheers

CB750 / Which brand of oil filter

Thanks Kevin

Project Board / Alternative wiring connectors for multi junctions
« on: January 07, 2019, 06:14:43 PM »
Another electrical question from me for you experts. I find the single bullet connectors are quite good having a positive click and secure latch to them when pushed together.

However I find the multi bullet connectors like the black 5 way and 4 ways for the indicators quite hopeless. They don't seem to give a secure firm connection at all. Last thing you want is unreliable electrics at any time.

I could cut the connector off the wires, tin the wires and use a standard block connector, but I am sure there must be a better solution, any ideas?

Many thanks,

Kevin

Project Board / Sidelight on US Spec CB750 K4
« on: January 05, 2019, 09:02:58 PM »
Hello All,

Just working through the electrics on my unregistered US CB750 K4. I see there is no front sidelight switch position on the right switch but weirdly park light on 2nd ignition switch position.

Will I need a front sidelight to obtain DVLA registration? If so how is this wired with US switches?

Many thanks for any info.

CB750 / 1974 750 K4 Restoration
« on: February 05, 2018, 11:01:24 AM »
Some time since I last posted so thought I would give a quick update of progress on my K4 restoration. Original bike as bought is the usual US import, left outside in albeit a "dry" climate but weather seized and surface on all chrome parts.

Soaked the cylinders in Diesel for a week (got to do something with the demon stuff now it been condemned), after gentle rocking back and fro the engine freed off. New coils, cleaned carbs, new points and remote fuel, she started and ran well. The noise really pissed of the miserable woman next door which was also fun.

Nonetheless the kick start return spring wasn't returning and given the state of the rest of the bike an engine strip would be in order.

By and large anything electrical needs replacing or restoring. I am going to powder coat switches and see if I can restore them. Calliper and master cylinder seized. But all in all it more or less complete and a good challenge.

Hopefully the video loads?

Misc / Open / Tyre fitter West Midlands
« on: May 07, 2017, 10:47:33 PM »
Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a good tyre fitter in anywhere around the West Midlands that won't destroy my newly chromed respoked wheels?

Many thanks,

Kevin

CB750 / Candy Gold Pinstripe
« on: February 26, 2017, 11:48:35 AM »
Hi Guys,

First post on the CB750 board following my introduction on the new members board yesterday. This one for the Candy Gold K2 specialists, I hope you can help because this one has me stumped.

The tank is with the painter now and he is going to stencil the pinstripes on. however neither of know the colour of the light pinstripe. We have seen references to opalescent white and silver in decal kits.

Which is correct?

Many thanks for any input.

New Member Introductions / Hello from Sutton Coldfield
« on: February 25, 2017, 11:03:33 AM »
Hi to all on the forum,

I have been lurking here for a while whilst I have hankered after a CB750 restoration project.

Finally the urge and finances came together about 12 months ago and I bought a US import K4 eBay special. Went for this one due to its low mileage and it was comparatively cheap. Advertised as a seized non runner.

On getting the bike I was not disappointed, it was as bad as it looked in the photos, but largely original. No serious rot, most of the chrome plating whilst oxidized is not seriously pitted. Freed engine after soaking the bores for a week or two with diesel. Stripped and cleaned carbs and after changing the oil, filter, coils, new points and plugs and fresh fuel from a remote tank got her running.

So great project. Since then I have completely stripped her. Lots of the preparation work now done. Frame shot blasted and coated, all re-chroming, re-zincing done, engine cases soda blasted, tank chemically stripped, bearings removed from hubs.

I am at a stage now where I can start to undertake the enormous amount of aluminium polishing and commence reassembly. Bought a 2.5HP polishing motor and all the mops - finally 3 years studying to be a silversmith will have a benefit!

Looking forward to the rebuild and the challenge. I have restored a few cars before and an a 1970 Triumph Daytona. I really enjoy the project, I am just hoping the CB750 will be a rewarding ride when finished which the Triumph was not.

I will have plenty of questions and I will post a few more pics when I have confidence I am posting correctly.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and look forward to all feedback.

Kevin
