CB500/550 / Re: CMS selling pattern parts as genuine
« on: January 16, 2024, 02:34:19 PM »
As suspected here is the CMS response.

We have check all remaining piston ring set that we have on stock.
All of them are in the RIKEN packaging. I contacted our product manager regarding this case. He informed me that RIKEN is OEM supplier for some of the Honda piston rings. These rings were released with either Honda packaging or RIKEN packaging.  The quality is 100% the same in both cases and it is not cheaper reproduction item.

They have offered to take them back, any ideas?

Well it appeared that CMS were intent on just ignoring this matter until I sent an email saying I’d take the matter up with Honda, claiming selling genuine Honda and sending aftermarket would get their attention I’d imagine.

Got a response almost immediately after sending that email, saying they’ve passed it onto their technician and also the warehouse so they can check the stock.

We’ll see what comes of that shortly.

If they claim that Rikken are the original suppliers for Honda (as some suspect) I’m not sure what I’ll do, the reason we fit genuine parts is because we get a sort of guarantee from Honda of quality etc, fitting OE parts is almost the same except you don’t know for certain that the original Honda specs are being met now when these are made. Even so the price should be lower, you don’t pay the same as original for aftermarket

Not 100% sure but I may have a wiring harness for a K3 lying around, I'd really need to look though and it's always a possibility I chopped it for some correct coloured wires.

There are a couple of members who may have a spare D ring. We all bought some from Erny a year or so ago, Sesman bought 2 and did say one was spare, I think the other was Mickwinf? I bought 5 as I expected them to be in demand but I've sold 3 of them and I need to keep the last 2 for myself.

It may be that Erny can have some more made, might not be a bad idea.

Got to warn you though that these ain't cheap, around 8 euros to have them made IIRC plus of course P&P.

My recollections are slightly different Nigel, I distinctly remember reading an article in one of the bike magazines, it was all about headlights, like a multiple test of different brands etc. It showed diagrams of beam patterns etc by using light meters to show where the light was being thrown. The Cibie Z beam won hands down, in fact the exact wording for their description of the main beam pattern was “Like a laser beam, with all the light almost on the floor”

They did say in the article that Cibie were making 2 versions of the Z beam, the 7” for the larger bikes and a smaller one with concave glass for the smaller bikes, both were described as being Z beams.

I immediately went out to my local Honda dealer to order one for my 500, it’s one of my purchases I’ve never regretted. On country roads the beam pattern is awesome, like a laser beam is a VERY good description of it.

I think this is Max, location matches. Identify which shape of rubber you need, he even sells the backplate in the first 2 links.

I'm in contact with Max who makes them, he's done me some stainless steel carb linkage rods for the 500/550F carbs, I asked him the other day what the news is on the clutch rubbers but as yet he hasn't replied. When he does I'll let you know.

The bars don't look original Matador, American bars were higher than the UK ones but I don't think that high. They look like semi apes TBH.

If you find the LED in the repeater lights is too bright, just paint the upper surface with some white nail varnish, missus may have some  ;D That tones it down quite a lot.

Cibie did do 2 versions of the Z beam, the concave one was the 6.25" ? one for the 400 with the 7" being convex for the 500/550/750 etc. Oddly they are not marked on the glass to show they are the Z beam, I still have my 7" Z beam headlight and fully intend to refit it on the 500 when (or IF) the bike gets back on the road.

I used the Z beam headlight as my testing bed for testing LED H4 replacement bulbs, you can see the results in the thread https://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,25595.msg234547.html#msg234547

350/400 uses the same damping rubbers in the primary hub as the 500/550. Cheap though, wonder how long their stocks of them will last?

In answer to that question, the answer after testing their stock levels is 2 only.

DS have them Dave at £6.41 each. 23114-323-000
