Out & About / Re: exploring Scotland

Use A6 North of Manchester, good road roughly parallels M6.
Scottish Borders are beautiful,  Moffat, Kelso, St Mary's Loch.
Glasgow roads are horrible,  get out of town ASAP!

Loch Lomond, pretty but jammed with tourists. Roads to Inverary and Oban good, ferries to islands from Oban.
Lots of bikes stop at The Green Welly, Tyndrum for fuel, bike and rider. Glencoe, of course.

Eilean Donan Castle, Isle of Skye, lots to see on Skye. Plockton.
Applecross and Bealach na Ba, amazing road.
Applecross Inn recommended.
After NC500 avoid the A9 south, not a great road for bikes, 50mph average speed cameras full length.
Head to Grantown on Spey and Ballater, then Balmoral Castle, Braemar and Glenshee. (my favourite road) or to Aboyne then south over Cairn o'Mount, fantastic views from the top car park.

Dunnottar Castle near Stonehaven, A92 coast road, Glen Clova all worth a look.
Broughty Ferry is nice, sandy beach and Visoccis Ice cream. 😎 Friendly bikers too.

Coast road through Fife is great, lovely old fishing villages.

In the Highlands fuel stops can be a long way apart so plan ahead. Some close on Sundays.

If you need any help let me know. I'd be happy to meet up for a ride if you want.

I've bought stuff from them before and never had a problem. They're usually at the larger bike shows too.

Dave, mine were missing from my project too so I made them from perforated sheet steel. I found some with a similar hole pattern to the parts diagrams and used the dimensions from the base of the filter box.
The steel bends quite easily with pliers so it's not too hard to do.
A bit of mesh pad to sandwich in between and the jobs a good'un. 👍

Sorry, I presume this has been asked before, but can someone recommend the best workshop manual for the CB550 K

Apparently it's a French one! 🤣

My spindle nut is on the left. You don’t have to take out the spindle to remove the wheel. Slacken the spindle nut, disconnect the brake connections on the right hand side, split the chain(or remove from sprocket), then the whole wheel, sprocket, adjusters and brake plate slide out backwards in one assembly.

Replace in reverse order, as they say in the best manuals!

I always keep some cash on me so that I can pay for items if the card system or bank computers go tits up - which seems to happen far too often. Call me old school if you want, never been caught unable to pay yet.
Of course,  if the shop tills stop working they won't even take cash!

Adrian Flux used to be really good with unusual, 'different' vehicles.

Great work on the clocks and paintwork.  Lovely job.

The bike will be up and running in no time. 😎

Funny you say that, as I took a screen shot of the below from David Silver last year, says aftermarket, but marked NGK, and they were red, now I can't find the red ones, only black on their website;

They are called aftermarket because they are different to the original fitment. Original plugcaps had those horrible metal shrouds which shorted like crazy when it rained. Were original caps supplied by Nippon Denso?
DSS wouldn't sell fake NGK plug caps deliberately,  I'm sure. EBay sellers are a different matter. 🤔

Maybe regulations have changed since the Seventies and the rim size has to be stamped on the side.
Other makes put them there too. ☹
