CB750 / CB750K5 Air screws
« on: March 22, 2024, 03:36:27 PM »
Just wondering what the opinions are on this. The Honda manual for the CB750K5 says that the air screws should be backed out 1 turn +-1/8. I have in the past had to go to 2 turns out to get a 750 running correctly. Some of you have far greater experience of the 750 than me, just wondering what you think. Cheers.

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Felt seals for CB450K
« on: March 17, 2024, 05:57:41 PM »
Where's the best place to get felt seals for CB450K carb spindles. Someone on here used to sell them but I have a horrible feeling that it was Ken. Cheers.

Member 4 Sales / Selling a Triumph Street Triple RS
« on: February 02, 2024, 04:02:45 PM »
I'm hoping to sell a Triumph Street Triple 765RS. It is/was owned by my long time pal Jim that I have been going to the Isle of Man with for the last 30 years. Unfortunately Jim lost his battle with cancer in December last year. He had bought the bike last summer as a self reward for getting through all the cancer surgery and chemo. Before he died he asked me to sell his vehicles to help out his widow. I have so far got rid of the car and his Kawasaki ZXR750 with just the Triumph to go. Thought I would offer it to you guys first, you never know.

The bike is a 2018 Triumph Street Triple 765RS. It is in very good condition having covered a mere 5800 miles since new. Starts straight away on the button and does everything expected of it, including the compulsory clutch rattle (they all do that sir).  It has Pirelli Rosso Diablo 2 tyres on it with plenty of tread depth left. This is the one with the twin radial Brembo brakes that without the ABS would throw you over the handlebars. Looking for serious offers around the £6000 mark which is an already excellent price for this fully loaded RS model in great condition. The bike is in Lytham StAnnes, Lancashire. PM me if your interested or want any more information. The bike will shortly be advertised elsewhere.

CB750 / Needing some CB750K choke linkages
« on: January 13, 2024, 06:16:14 PM »
Hi. I still haven't managed to get the CB750K5 on the road yet due to carb issues. The carbs were rebuilt by Gerben in Holland and he has made a very poor job of it. They look great on the outside but the actual workings, not so much. I sent the carbs to Matt Harper in Cheshire who has found a long list of issues. The latest he has found is mismatched lever choke lever arms with carb 1 arm being 5mm shorter than the other three. He thinks that No.1 is the correct length and the other three are off K0 carbs. This mismatch causes the choke pushrod to foul on the cable quadrant and does not operate carb 1 choke correctly.

My question is. Does anyone have a spare 4 piece set of choke lever arms for a later model 750. I hope the pictures show what I'm looking for better than words.

If anyone can help out with this I would be most grateful. Also take as a warning that Gerben ain't so hot on carbs, in fact he should pack it in. I have a list of faults that Matt has found that's makes me wonder how the bike even started in the first place. Thanks for the help.

CB350/400 / Oil weep from head
« on: November 03, 2023, 11:49:03 AM »
Hi. My CB350F (the one in the Avatar picture) has started a slight oil weep from the right hand side front of the cylinder head. Leaking between head and barrels. I know Trigger recommends an o-ring thicker than standard at that point which I can't fully remember if I did (done a lot since then). Is it possible that the head just requires re-torquing down, and if so, is it safe to slightly over torque like recommended for the 750. Or should I just take the head off again and fit another new gasket and o-rings. The bike has only done 400 miles since its rebuild years ago. Cheers.

CB750 / Cb750K5 tank trims
« on: September 15, 2023, 06:29:58 PM »
Does anyone know the correct way of fitting the lower trims to the 750 fuel tank. They are these David Silver reproduction ones.

Not sure quite how to do it as they don't appear to sit flush to the side of the tank. Are they meant to be slid under the metal hooks on the bottom of the tank feeding in from the back? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

Misc / Open / Manx GP 2023
« on: August 14, 2023, 06:18:02 PM »
Anyone going to the Manx GP this year, or is it only me stupid enough. They have changed the format again this year to feature a mere 5 races all week. It's expensive to get and stay there, works out at about £200 a race. There is practice and qually as well so at least something to watch. Weather looks a bit shit as well.

Misc / Open / Bonhams Auction Stafford
« on: August 14, 2023, 06:14:25 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has used Bonhams Auction at Stafford to sell a bike. If so, what was the service like, and did you get a good price. Also, anyone know what the catalogue price is to get in for autumn 2023, they seem a little bit coy about advertising the price for some reason (can't be free with the show ticket surely).

Misc / Open / Insurance quotes
« on: June 04, 2023, 02:43:07 PM »
Does anyone know an easy way of getting insurance quotes for a modern bike plus five classics. Tried online but it gets to bike details and its a royal pain keep typing in details of six bikes. Surely a quote can be obtained by just saying modern bike plus five. Or is that too simple.

CB750 / CB750K5 breather pipe routes
« on: May 17, 2023, 02:11:45 PM »
Just come to fitting the breather pipes on the K5. The bike didn't have any pipes on it when it arrived so I have no idea of the routings. Any pictures available at all, or explanations. I need the rocker box breather, the crankcase breather, and the oil tank breather. Also, on the bottom rear of the oil tank is a small 6mm ish pipe that looks like a breather, what does that connect to. Thanks.

CB750 / CB750 Wiring Issues
« on: May 11, 2023, 11:39:41 AM »
Good morning all. This is for you budding auto electricians out there. The 750 has arrived at the wiring stage. Starting at the back and working forwards all has gone okay including non standard reg/rect and Boyer ignition. Just got to sort out the pan of spaghetti in the headlight. That's brought up the first issue. Why are there 3 cables shown on the front indicators and only 2 on the rear. The actual units just have supply and earth. I am sure I have done this loads of time before but it has me stumped this time. Cheers.

Other Bikes / Goodbye old friend
« on: March 24, 2023, 09:53:30 AM »
It's time to say goodbye to my old friend the Honda CB1300. I have owned the bike from new since 2007, that's 16 years the longest time I have ever owned a bike. Due to my ever growing health problems the bike has just become too heavy (238kg) to deal with. Riding it was okay as it's well balanced and fairly low, but moving it around or especially getting it into the garage has become too hard.

I spent last Friday getting part exchange valuations and it appears to be worth £3500 to the dealers. I tried the online buyers and BikeTrader.co.uk sent a valuation of £4000 so I went ahead with that but setting my realistic acceptance point at £3800. After the 45 minute inspection where they tried every trick going to get the price down (not going to work here as I know a thing or two about bikes) we settled on £3850 which I'm happy with as the bike had some issues.

So it was a teary goodbye to an old friend, hope someone new looks after it gets some use from it.

As the 2023 reg is out the dealers are full of part exchanges so it's a good time to look. Next Friday the new lady arrives and I do apologise as it's not a Honda. It was a close run thing between a Honda CB650R and a Triumph Trident 660 where the winner was the Triumph. I managed to get the asking price down a bit as I had no trade in so I more than got back what I lost on the 1300. I somehow doubt I will have this one for 16 years as that would make me 81 but here's hoping. Hope you like the video   https://youtu.be/rMHR7g8Nk6M

CB750 / Photo of wiring loom
« on: January 22, 2023, 01:53:49 PM »
Any chance someone with a CB750K3-6 could take some photo's of under the seat and behind the left side panel for wire routing. Under the tank would also be nice but that's too much to ask anyone to take the tank off. Cheers.

CB750 / 750K5 pattern fork ears
« on: September 14, 2022, 11:24:18 AM »
Hi. Am having trouble fitting pattern fork ears. The ring that holds the boot won't go over the bottom of the ears as they have been made about 2mm too large. Is there a way to get around this or is it another pattern part destined for the bin. As they came from Silver's they can go back but that leaves me earless, and job stop again. Picture below:

Edit: I'm going to return them to Silvers. I am hoping they can replace them after the problem was spotted and rectified (won't hold my breath although the pictures on the website show clear differences around that area). In the expectation that that won't happen, does anyone have a spare set of fork ears. I don't mind a bit of surface rust as they can be re-chromed but dented (like the ones I have) is no good as they are double skinned, so the dents are very hard to knock out. Thank you.

CB750 / Mystery problem on 750 cams
« on: June 29, 2022, 04:39:27 PM »
Just reassembling the 750 top end and hit a weird problem. Everything has gone fine getting the cam towers/cam/cam-chain assembled but when I come to put the inlet rockers on they are tight. The adjustment screws are backed right off which gives about 6mm of play on the exhausts, but the inlets are so tight they wont go in at all. I am using the original valves and springs, the seats weren't recut just a very light lapping in. I am aware that the cam needs to turn away from the lift area to get the follower on so it's not that. With a straight edge on the valves they are all virtually the same height. What the heck have I done wrong I'm stumped, I'm hoping I have missed something obvious that's easy to rectify.

I thought that somehow the valves may be sitting too high but according to CycleX the compressed spring length should be 37mm and valve stem protrusion should be 43mm. All four of the inlet valves measure bang on the money?
