CB750 / Broken cylinder head stud
« on: February 20, 2016, 04:37:47 PM »
Just gone against the habit of a lifetime.

Read somewhere on here this morning to torque the head nuts dry. Well I have always used a drop of 3in1 oil and never ever had a problem.

Today I take advice and torque them dry, and guess what, a broken stud. My own fault, you should always go with what you know works.

Any ideas how to remove the remainder so I can fit a new stud. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am a little bit down hearted with this just at the moment. Sorry.

CB750 / 750 oil seals
« on: February 19, 2016, 05:59:48 PM »
Just checking before I make a mistake. Got a Cruzinimage gasket kit for the CB750K4 and it has eight of these in it:

I'm sure these are for the 750F2 and not the K4.

Am I right? And can I discard them for the K4.

Cheers all.

CB350/400 / Gearbox blanking seal.
« on: February 12, 2016, 04:44:32 PM »
Is it possible to change the main shaft oil seal (34x9mm) on a 400F without splitting the cases. Its the seal that is a blacking piece with an oil supply right underneath (just in front of the sprocket). My mates bike is weeping oil past this seal. Funny, I was only talking about that same thing 2 days ago, think I will also check that seal on my 350F.

CB750 / Assembling 750 debate.
« on: February 11, 2016, 05:53:18 PM »
Just thought I would ask about the assembly of the crankcase halves on a CB750.

I always assemble the crankshaft into the top casing along with the mainshaft, primary chains, and output shaft. But just noticed that the Haynes manual says to assemble it all in the bottom casing, and the Clima manual says to do it my way.

Which is the correct way to do it?

Cheers.

Other Bikes / Spare shed load of cash?
« on: February 07, 2016, 09:25:46 AM »
If you have a spare shed load of cash lying around unused this is the way to go.   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Hurricane-X75-X-75-1-owner-untouched-and-unrestored-museum-piece-WOW-/222016581170?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276    Could never understand why Triumph never put the Vetter Trident into production, this had a chance of single handedly saving the British bike Industry. Well maybe not eh.

What a beautiful piece of machinery. Don't know its worth 35k though, but someone will buy it.

Have a look at the last photo, some collection that is. And all the boxed toys on the shelf, either a shrewd collector/investor, or a nutter with too much money. ;D

CB750 / Sandcast engine
« on: January 19, 2016, 04:46:07 PM »
This any use to you Sandcast guys. Looks cheap to me if its genuine.   http://aberdeen.craigslist.co.uk/mpd/5377829550.html
Can we assume that Sancast number 1971 no longer exists? Who would break a Sandcast.

Misc / Open / Winter Project
« on: January 17, 2016, 11:00:36 AM »
I keep seeing people looking for a new winter project. Well I've just been out to the garage intending to fit some new coils on the 350 and "Sod that for a game of soldiers" its bl***y freezing. I'm now looking for the next summer project. ;D

Other Bikes / Classic Triumph Twins
« on: January 09, 2016, 12:58:44 PM »
Here's a long shot. Does anybody have, hiding in the back of the garage, a complete Triumph T100 or T120 or even a T140 engine they would be willing to sell. Cash waiting for the right engine. If that's not specific enough, preferably a 1971 T100R Daytona unit. Like I said, a long shot. ;D

Or indeed, any suggestions where I may find one. Cheers.

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Yamiya prices
« on: January 07, 2016, 08:03:19 AM »
Been looking at Yamiya prices for Alan's Cb750K4 engine. The prices look really good but do you get stung for postage and import duties. Have used some companies in the States, and after the additional charges I may as well have got them from Silvers. Its also easier to return things. What's your experiences with Yamiya. Cheers.

CB350/400 / Silvers pattern ignition coils
« on: January 05, 2016, 03:37:37 PM »
Got some replacement coils from DSS. Does it matter which way they are connected as the terminals have no identifying marks, and the cables (black & yellow) are separate patch cables. Cheers.

CB750 / Cracked crank cases.
« on: January 03, 2016, 02:32:12 PM »
Hi all.

I am rebuilding a CB750K4 engine for Alan (MCTID).

Got the engine apart and am cleaning up the parts. After removing the thick goo from around the drive sprocket area (looks like the goo was deliberately spread out to cover it)I have discovered deep score marks and a large crack in the lower case, caused by a chain breakage.

The crack is beyond welding up as the alloy has been pushed inwards and is twisted.

Does anybody have a spare set of cases (obviously I will need both halves as they are a matched set) they would be willing to sell.

The bike is a CB750K4 USA import. I think (not certain) that K3 to K5 cases are all the same.

Thanks. Roy.

CB350/400 / HT Leads on coils
« on: December 24, 2015, 08:17:09 AM »
Discovered yesterday that after the initial superb results with the 350F that I now have a 3.5 cylinder bike.

When I put the coils on (originals) I noticed that one HT lead was turning in the coil and was quite loose. But decided to go along with them anyway.

Not sure at this point if its on the bad running cylinder (Christmas duties prevent vital garage time, Bah Humbug) but from memory I think it may be.

Anyone else had this problem.

Cheers and Happy Christmas.

CB350/400 / Top buy 350F (still 2 days to go)
« on: December 22, 2015, 05:12:52 PM »
Now this is worth the price. What a great start point for a resto. All there bar the exhausts.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-cb-350-four-cylinder-classic-/131680957435?hash=item1ea8cbf3fb:g:UYsAAOSwk1JWdqF6   May end with a bidding war, who knows.

Wondering now why I went to all that trouble rebuilding one when I could have just bought this and stuck some new pipes on it?

CB350/400 / Clutches from Cruzinimage
« on: November 20, 2015, 05:35:00 PM »
I have used a Cruzinimage clutch on the rebuild of the 350F (mainly due to the cheap price).
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CB350F-CLUTCH-PLATE-SET-7-Friction-Plates-INclude-CD-1140-/262136672845?hash=item3d0890324d

Now its operational there is a huge amount of clutch drag and the adjustment bolt is on the very end.

Are these clutches any good or should I open it up and fit a proper item. Been using Gecko clutches on the 750 from Wemoto and they have been excellent.

I definitely put everything back that came out of it, could be the PO lost something along the way. I may need to go through it again I guess.

Should I lose the Cruzinimage clutch as well or are they good.
