CB350/400 / CB350F Rear cabling routes
« on: August 22, 2015, 11:06:13 AM »
I am looking at rewiring the back end on the 350F but not sure of the cable routes for the lights and indicators (especially the indicators). Anybody that has a 350, any chance of posting a picture of the routing (under the seat and under the rear mudguard). That would be a big help, many thanks.

CB350/400 / Wiring sizes
« on: August 17, 2015, 07:36:57 AM »
Morning All.

Am in need of rewiring the back end of the 350F from where the loom stops to the back light/indicators etc.

I have a good supplier for cable, and I have the colours from the wiring diagram.

The question is what size cable do I need, and should it be standard or thin wall.

Don't forget the wiring is exposed under the back mudguard on the 350/400 and not sleeved.

Many thanks.

CB350/400 / M&P rear mudguard
« on: August 15, 2015, 08:38:24 AM »
Anyone following my rebuild thread (CB350F restoration by royhall) will know that I have been having difficulty with the pattern back mudguard. It was bought from M&P about 4 months ago to replace the very rusty original that came on the bike, and I have just got to the point where its being fitted.

Well it doesn't fit. The front screws are good but the side screws wont go anywhere near. Fixed that with the dremmel (will cold galvanise all the insides later) but the back light is nowhere near.

Check the out of line on the back light. The drillings are a mile out.

Although I bought it months ago, M&P have refunded me £30 (which they didn't have to do) and they say all the stock is the same. This is a repeating theme, wish I had spent the money on a secondhand guard and got it re-chromed.

In a nutshell, be warned these mudguards are crap (same part for 350 &400) but M&P are excellent.

CB750 / A stupid mistake.
« on: July 25, 2015, 01:16:36 PM »
Had a problem with my restored F2 that at first appeared to be a wheel balance issue. It felt jerky and bouncy at low speed, but strangely smoothed out the faster it went. Had the wheels balanced and the back was already spot on but the front was way out. Put it back together and it was still the same. Tried rear suspension adjustments but that didn't help either.

Decided to re-check the tyre pressures, and whilst doing the back noticed a scrape mark along the inside of the chain like it was rubbing on something. On closer inspection it was rubbing on the crankcase. So off with the transmission covers and this is what I found.

Turns out the front sprocket has an inner boss that I had inadvertently fitted the wrong way round.

Put it all back together and the jerky ride has gone. Narrowly averted total disaster there. Just goes to show, no matter how careful you are things still go wrong. At least I caught it in time and all is well now.

With a bit of luck this post will stop someone else making the same stupid mistake. ::) ::)

Ashley has asked me to get some prices from the guy I use for engineering services. He's done a fair few bits for me and it's always been good quality stuff.

Got a short list below:

Valve seats re-cut- £25 (twin)  £40 (four)
Head skim - £25
Barrel skim - £25
Re-bore - £45 (twin)  £80 (four)
Stainless disc re-grind - up to £50

David Burton Engineering.

If you arrange it direct with David, I don't mind you posting it to me and I shall drop it in to him (as long as it's not too many people). He's not VAT registered and he does like cash. So as long as you Paypal me the correct amount including return postage I shall sort it for you.

Cheers Roy.

CB750 / CB750K1 on the frog site
« on: July 05, 2015, 10:15:48 AM »
Could this be one of his better deals. I reckon its worth the price if it is as described. There's the gamble?  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB750-CB-750-K1-1970-unfinished-project-Candy-Ruby-Red-amp-Gorgeous-/221816304661?&_trksid=p2056016.m2518.l4276   Shame about the exhausts though.

CB350/400 / 350F crankcase dowel pins.
« on: June 25, 2015, 06:46:58 PM »
Does anybody know how many dowel pins locate the 350F crankcase halves. I can only find two 10mm at the front of the engine. Only 2 dowels, is this correct? Thanks.

CB350/400 / Pattern part rims from DSS
« on: June 23, 2015, 05:19:32 PM »
Hi. Looking at trying to save a bit of cash on the 350 build. Its turning into the usual money pit again. Just looking at the Union Cycle wheel rims that DSS are offering. They say "the same quality at a fraction of the price" but we've all heard that before. As I'm getting a bit disillusioned with pattern parts, has anybody used these parts before and whats the quality like. Better to know before I order this time. Thanks all.

CB350/400 / Cam chain tensioner.
« on: June 04, 2015, 06:00:19 PM »
Can someone in the know have a quick look at these pictures and say if this tensioner blade is shot or re-usable. I think it's past it's best? Also, are the aftermarket tensioners any good or am I best with genuine. Thanks in advance.

CB750 / K series carbs on 750F2
« on: June 03, 2015, 02:43:06 PM »
Am going to try a conversion from the horrible PD carbs on the 750F2 to a set of K4 carbs I have spare. These are 20mm shorter than the PD's so am going to need to use the isolator rubbers off the K series to get the airbox back on.

Does anybody have a spare K head that can be measured. I need the diameter of the inlet spigots. Not sure if they are the same on the F2, I have a feeling the K's are smaller. The F2 spigots are 35mm. The K's carbs don't fit the F2 rubbers as the carb outlet  bosses are smaller. If the head spigots are smaller it could be end of game before I start so don't want to waste money buying parts that are not going to fit.

Have searched the internet and unbelievably cannot find anybody that has done this before. Have found a guy that has PD's on a K2 (Why) but not the other way around. He's also running pod filters that I don't want. So I guess its all in the spigot size, if they are the same I can just use K series isolator rubbers and it should all fit? Jetting is then anybody's guess. :-\ :-\

Thanks Guys.

CB350/400 / 350 Engine bolts.
« on: May 30, 2015, 07:21:37 AM »
Just looking through the engine bolts for the 350F in case they need re-plating etc. They are actually in good nick, but thought whilst I have time I will see what they would cost to replace. Got the codes for top and bottom bolts and went on the DSS site. Including delivery its £151.32p. Holy crap, for a few BZP shoulder bolts. Every order a lottery win for Dave. The old ones are going back in.

I usually copper slip the threads, is that the correct thing to do.

Thanks all.

Misc / Open / Colortune
« on: May 19, 2015, 05:41:25 PM »
Has anybody ever used a colortune to set the idle mixture? Is it worth the effort and cost, and if it was how easy was it to do.
