Title: Anyone out on their SOHC today?
Post by: cooleronthecoast on November 10, 2019, 03:35:08 PM
The weather has been too good not to have a ride out this weekend.  I have to admit Flamborough isn't exactly a million miles from where I live, but even so it was nice to have a short blast on the 550.  Shame about all the crap on the roads Mr Farmer! but it is November and I know its not possible to plough a field and get a tractor back to the farm without leaving some debris on the road surface.   I need to do some work on the carbs as the bike is running like a pig, but it was fun.

Far to dirty for all that chrome around hear.
So I went out on my Guzzi yesterday. Incredibly greasy roads and almost killed my self trying to keep with a brand new Blade.  ::) stopped breifly in Finchingfield for a quik chat lovely bike but far to nice to get dirty . Even though it was slippery had good fun and covered 110miles in just over 2 1/2 hours and feel much better for it.

Took the Phil Read Replica over to Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District to see the effects of the flooding in the Derwent valley... couldn't resist a blast up the Snake Pass into Glossop for a greasey spoon burger and chips👍

I rode the CB750 a few miles on Saturday and on Sunday went to the Duxford Remembrance Day event on the BMW.

Saturday temperature was around 8c at midday with some sun (after fog cleared) and almost dry roads. Yesterday, thinking that as we had not had rain overnight and the roads here were dry (albeit at only 2.5c) I set off at 8:00 and found within a couple of miles wet roads, fields covered in frost and 0.5c reading on the dash thermometer!

Luckily I didn't have any worrying moments and by lunchtime it was 12c and sunny.

A good day at Duxford and two excellent displays, by a Spitfire and then a Mustang. Later, I heard that the Blenheim was due to fly later, but decided to head for home before the cold and dark arrived.

I usually take the VT250 to work but it's got a leak from the pipe connecting the two carbs.   I repaired it but left the tap to carbs pipe off.  I didn't realise until I attempted to ride it this morning so I'm on the 400four.
Makes a nice change.

That picture doesn't do justice to the PRR and the scenery John.

Just a quick crop...

Hi Cooler on the coast

May I enquire what year and colour your bike is pls I have a CB550K3 which has sadly turned out to be a mongrel, The colour I have found out is a 550f colour. I would like to try and return it to something like original when it was made but this depend's how much has been changed on the bike and how easy it is to source the parts and the cost. If lots of parts have been changed I may go for a colour change to a colour similar to yours and just keep as a pure mongrel  8)

Hi Gromitdog. Just reading back through your posts, you say your bike is a 1973 UK 550/4 K3, we didn't have K3's in 1973, or 550/4 F1 or 2's either, both models were much later than 73. I know you say its a Mongrel but when you say you would like to return it to original, what 'original' do you mean 🤔🤔

Half an hour each on K2, CR750 and ZZR1100. Obviously, all differnt beasts but K2 is nice cruiser, CR makes you feel like a young hooligan again (but only for a short period!) and ZZR shows how 'superbikes' moved on in 20 years - speed, braking, handling and smoothness - just so easy to ride. Great to ride them back to back as it makes you appreciate each bikes character!

Ah yes Ken, just seen the photo. It looks like a K3, possibly import going by rear light unit with F2 front end. The switch gear / bars / headlamp bowl etc may have been changed so no conclusive evidence there. Do the VIN and engine number confirm anything?. Interesting project Gromitdog.
