Title: Removing front wheel.
Post by: Bradders on September 21, 2020, 07:59:28 PM
Evening all. Seem to have a puncture in my front tyre so need to remove the front wheel. Is it easy to remove the front wheel ? Any thing I should be careful about? The Haynes makes it sound easy. TIA.

It is just as Haynes describes Bradders and very easy. Just make sure you have the front end propped up somehow and you are good to go.

Thanks Julie. I’ve also been looking at the thread on here about supporting the bike with the wheel off. Thanks again.

Just be aware that upon replacement you tighten the leading bolts of the front axle holders first, and only then tighten up the trailing bolts.

These axle holders btw are marked F ... as are oriented.

(and apologies if Haynes has already highlighted this...)

Thanks Lobo that’s very useful. I think Haynes says about doing the front nuts up first but not about which way the clamps go, so thanks.

I use a couple of tie downs from the bars to the cross supports in my garage.

I wedge a block of wood under the sump, cut to the correct size.

Thanks Julie. I’ve also been looking at the thread on here about supporting the bike with the wheel off. Thanks again.

You may have already seen my earlier post on this but if not, I used a front paddock stand as it gives the freedom to move the forks about too:

Edit: I see you only just up the road in Crowthorne - I'm only too happy to let you borrow it if you want?

Thanks for the offer Andrew. I managed ok by using my step ladder suggested on another thread and support under the sump. Had puncture repaired by GS tyres in Wokingham recommended by Steve D. Wheel back on with the assistance of Mrs Bradders. This Forum is great for the mine of useful information I get.

They were pretty busy but repaired it for me while I waited, all done and dusted in about 15 minutes. So great service.
