CB500/550 / Re: I found this in my sump
« on: February 13, 2016, 01:39:20 PM »
Thanks fellas appreciate the response. Second question, I have basic tools, sockets spanners etc, a Haynes manual and a shed! Is it a nightmare of a job to open up the engine, find the offending item and replace it. Or is it do-able for a novice? :-)
You may be able to find a video of someone doing an engine restoration on your model of bike on youtube.
Best of luck. :)

What are you looking for? Something mint, something to tinker with,  something to restore, or a use as is run about?

Might be worth posting a wanted ad.

Having just cleared enough space to tinker I'm enjoying my 550 again, but I may part with it or my monkeybike shortly,  I fancy a 2 stroke race rep or supermoto.

Hello Totty,
Probably something to tinker with,we'll see.

the early Sohc are great little bikes,

 typical early Honda solid engineering,
infact solid and over-engineered,

only need respect and regular oil and filter changes,

as for this forum, its the most helpful and fun place to be on,

we welcome you,and ask you to send lots of piccies of the bike
Thanks John.

Had a quick look at the 550. Looks quite nice to me apart from the pipes but then I'm no expert. Someone will give you a better appraisal soon.
Thanks Wolfheze for your input, agreed, the pipes are not an endearing feature but these can be changed.

Hi,
Alastair here.
I have owned a number of bikes and scooters over the years from BSA through to Yamaha.
Sold my previous bike last year (Kawasaki w800) and now thinking about a classic Honda four.
So here I am.

Hi,
Seen a CB550 k1 for sale by Motorcycles Unlimited in London which I am interested in.
Wondering if any members have had dealings with this company in the past and have any recommendations.
As I am based in Scotland I would have to buy it sight unseen which is not always a good idea.
Having said that I have bought bikes this way in the past and it has worked out for me.
Thanks in advance.
