Title: rev counter help

hey guys, my rev counter on my 1980 cb650z goes up very slowly and only to about 3k then very slowly returns to about 1 k, if you tap the clock it will return to 0 after some time, i had a look at the clock and it seem s to be sealed.
any ideas

It sounds like the grease within the damper has hardend with age, I suspect it's a Nippon Seiki gauge and those do tend to suffer this problem. Sealed, well it was never intended that they would be dismantled but it's possible with care. Dealing with the damper is a bit more of a problem. I have details of how it's done in pdf format that I can forward via email if that would help.
