Well Ive received her, thanks to the Bike Bus Company, got her insured through Carole Nash (that's another story!!!) and taken her for a ride.
She is lovely. Runs as sweet as a nut, handles beautifully and is great fun in the cafe racer set up.
I have all the spares to change back to standard (the frame was not cut during the cafe racer build) butvInactually like her as she is.
What do you guys and girls think?

Thanks for all the comments
I've found a bike, at what I think is a very reasonable price, and am awaiting delivery.
I'm not looking at making it a show bike, just a good solid bike to ride and enjoy, modified and non standard is not an issue as long as it is in all round sound condition.
I'm looking forward to getting out in this wonderful British summertime weather once it arrives.  :)

If you can find an earlier model K0 ideally or K1 as they will (maybe) be worth more. Also depends on how much restoration work you want to do and of course how competent you are.

There are a few always on ebay but some are really stupid money but there are some decent ones come up from time to time. I would expect to pay no more than £6K - £7K for a decent example but others may disagree with me here

you may have seen this but this is currently on Ebay and would be a good easy project.

Thanks. This one looks ideal and not too much needed to get it back on the road (that's if it's got a V5) if it hasn't got a V5 I could probably have it fully restored before the DVLA supply me with one!   :D

I'm in the market to add another bike to my garage. I've been looking at the 500 and 550 fours but can't decide which would be better.
What's your opinion people?
What are the pros and cons of both and how much am I looking at needing to pay for a bike in very good condition?
Plus, if anyone knows of a good one for sale, let me know.
Or should I be looking at the 750/4 market instead?
Thanks.  :)

CB350/400 / Halogen Headlamp Conversion and Brake Seal Lube
« on: June 04, 2019, 09:55:45 PM »
I'm carrying out a restoration to the front end of my CB400F and: -
1. I want to fit a halogen headlamp conversion. Do I need to fit a relay to prevent circuit overload and if so does anyone have a simple wiring diagram or explanation of how to do this?
2. I am carrying out a complete restoration of the front brake and want to use dot5 silicone based fluid.  Is silicone grease OK to use on the calliper piston O ring for reassembly?
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Many Thanks

Hi Orcadian Ian

Thanks for the specific info and one of the black paints is available in Hull too.  Bonus.

Thanks for the link to your pages. Again great info.

I'm overwhelmed by the amount of help and information available and willingness to share with likeminded folk.  Simply excellent.  :)

Thanks Nurse Julie

Is the 1970's gloss possible to do yourself with 'rattle can' paint on the small parts?
If so what do you recommend?

I have read on a 400/4 restorers blog that he uses Hamnerite Satin, on the pics shown it looked semi gloss but this could have been from the camera flash.

By the way, I'm not looking for a 'best in show' finished bike but do want it to look right.

Hi All
Thanks for the friendly Welcome.

Hi AshimotoKO
I live on Haworth Park so not too far from Willerby

Thanks for the 'dropbox' info. Already read through, great info!

I have started the strip down and have one question straight away!
I want to strip, and restore all of the 'Black' bits but the bike seams to have a mishmash of gloss and satin finishes, some poorly hand painted. Yuck!!

What should the correct finish be?  Gloss or Satin Black?
If you could point me in the right direction as to where I can find this out it would be much appreciated. :-)

Hi
I have been riding motorcycles for nearly 40 years, currently riding a 1999 VFR800 fix I've had from new, but have just purchased the bike that I fell in love with in my childhood which is a 1976 Honda CB400F.  :D

The bike is in fair condition but I am looking to fully restore to original, as far as I am able, but am a restoration virgin so will need loads of help and advice.  ::)

I'm looking forward to trawling through past posts that may answer some of my many questions but also looking forward to starting new threads, if I can't find anything, and hoping that the forum members vast knowledge and experience will be on hand to help me out when I inevitably get stuck!!

Thanks to all in advance.  :)
