Yes, they have a reputation for it. Let me see if I can find a couple of links to the issue.

Hi Phil your right
these sites are a great deal more helpful than the haynes manual i have got.The owners past experiance is very useful. Its a shame that my electrics are playing up for the one thing i hate on bikes are electrics.Iam going to give a few more days effort then i will have to find professional help. With any luck before long i will ride over to see your beast.

Lol - Haynes - Helpful :D, Ha ha ha .... So serioulsy Haynes and Clymer are ok when it comes to a strip and rebuild, but the niggley isses like electrics, you need expert and the forums are chock full of them

Tee hee, last time I carefully followed a haynes manual....... 'soak the main crank seal in oil for several houres or overnight' get to end of chapter, 'Note, it has now been advised not to allow any oil to get on the main oil seal before assembly' Thanks Haynes why not edit the text at the relevant piont rather than a not in the end of the chapter. Other Haynes howlers include 'may require some force' means you will need a sledgehammer to remove and a new part.
