the free tax scheme for vehicles over 35 years (original scheme) was brought in by the last consevative govt intending it to roll over every year, that lasted 1 year before labour came in and cancelled the roll over bit so it stayed at vehicles registered before Jan 1st 1973 until the conservatives came back in and started it rolling again, it's currently pre Jan 1st 1974 and come April 1st 2015 it will be vehicles manufactured before Jan 1st 1975.
its up to you to notify and prove to the DVLA that your vehicle was manufacfured before the 1st of Jan 1975 from April 1st 2015. the 1st of January is the date that the govt use as their datum.

the DVLA do run it on the registration date unless you can provide evidence of the actual date of manufacture, the tax free staus applies to the manufacture date not the registration date. assuming honda would have sold the 1976 models from august 1975 in the UK they would have had to start manufacture sometime in 1975, i think your right about the US data though, does sound a bit odd making '76 models as far back as Dec '74.

CB750 / CB750K6 exact year of manufacture
« on: March 18, 2015, 06:30:46 PM »
hi, i have a Honda CB750K6 frame number: CB7502576566  its a 1976 model year that was first registered in the UK in July 1977. According to data on this site the K6 model was manufactured from Dec 1974 to June 1976.
i am trying to determine when it was actually manufactured as it may now qualify for tax exempt status due to changes announced in the 2015 budget.
i've tried all the usual vin number search sites but they dont apply to pre 1980 bikes and the rest of the information i can find is vague on the subject, anyone know how to find out when this frame number was actually manufactured between Dec 1974 to June 1976 ?
thanks
Laurence

CB750 / CB750 clear float bowls
« on: April 08, 2014, 07:44:43 PM »
hi all, thought you might be interested see these cb750 clear plastic float bowls i picked up on ebay a few years back. i think these fall into the '70s bike accessory category along with the petrol cap fuel gauge and clip on chrome cylinder head fin covers !. while i would agree they dont have much use as an essential riding accessory (apart from looking cool lol :), they are a priceless bit of kit for checking the float level of your carbs without the hassle of taking the carbs off. i've used them a few times to check my K6 carbs and they work perfectly, simply unclip your float bowls and clip these on and watch them fill up to the red line on the side of the bowl.
anyone know anything about them ?
