CB500/550 / Does anyone have any top fork bolts for a CB500?
« on: March 07, 2016, 08:16:35 PM »
Does anyone have a pair of (chrome) front fork top bolts for a CB500 K1 they can sell me please?
I am refurbishing a 1972 bike, but the top fork bolts are pitted, so I am looking to replace them.

Does anyone have the small button that operates the low/high beam on the right hand handlebar switchgear please?

The main unit is OK - just missing the small button.

Thanks in anticipation.

CB500/550 / CB500 front drive sprocket question
« on: February 23, 2016, 06:58:01 PM »
I’m currently stripping a 1972 CB500 and because the chain had no split link, I removed the swinging arm to remove the chain.

In doing this, I noticed that the front drive sprocket could be slid off the drive shaft without undoing any bolts or retaining screws.

Is this normal, or should there be something to hold the sprocket in place please?

CB500/550 / CB500 4 into 2 upswept exhaust system anyone?
« on: May 02, 2015, 12:14:36 PM »
I have just bought an abandoned CB500 project which I am in the process of dismantling.
The rather nice upswept exhaust system (below) with new, unused silencers was fitted to the bike, but I don't recognise it as a CB500 part.
Can anyone advise please?

Does anyone know when Honda changed the clutch cable from the right hand side of the early CB500 engine to the left hand side please?

Where's My Old Bike? / Honda CB500 Four XWK816M still around?
« on: April 03, 2015, 01:33:25 PM »
I bought this bike new in 1974.
I did many mods on it but had to sell it to fund a house purchase at the time.
It would be nice to find out if is still around and what condition it is in.

CB500/550 / What is the spring for?
« on: March 18, 2015, 02:42:21 PM »
On cleaning and replcacing the carbs on my 1974 CB550 four, one of them is overflowing and luckily it is the number 4 (end) carb, so I can remove the float bowl quite easily to check the float valve.

But I can't figure out the purpose of the small sprung needle in the centre of the needle valve.

Does anyone know please?

CB500/550 / Any ideas for restoring chrome seat trim on CB500/550?
« on: March 07, 2015, 06:39:13 PM »
Does anyone have any ideas for restoring the chrome strip around my 1974 CB550 seat?

The chrome layer has been damaged over the years and it cannot be replaced without buying an original Honda seat because the chrome strip is attached to the edge of the seat cover moulding.
I have rubed the chrome down with emery cloth and this leaves the (white) plastic underneath exposed, which is actually better looking than the crappy chrome look.

However, I would still like to get the chrome back, and the only thing I can think of is chrome tape.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

New Member Introductions / What would you do?
« on: February 28, 2015, 06:15:23 PM »
Just a quick hello to the forum.

I've already had some welcome advice with reference to dating and registering the CB550 I have recently bought.

I have now recommissioned the bike and sent off the registration documents. All I have to do now is waaaaiit for the DVLA to kick in to gear and hopefully I'll be on the road for April.

Only today I have bought another bike - a CB350F in fantastic condition and with only 14000 miles on the clock. I don't know what to do - ride it or wrap it in cotton wool. What would you do?

I bought a new 1974 CB500 four in (would you believe) 1974 when mag alloy wheels for bikes were first making an appearance.
I was lucky enough to know someone who had a contact at the factory in Mildenhall and managed to get a set at a discount - they looked great when fitted.
Today I still like the 1972 K2 CB500 four and want to change the wheels (and possibly forks if necessary) to alloy wheels, but alas can't find any for a bike this old.
An alternative might be a set of Honda Superdream wheels/forks with Comstar wheels, hence my post to see if anyone on the forum has done this and if so, how did you do it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
