CB350/400 / Cam chain adjuster bolt 400-4
« on: September 26, 2015, 07:01:05 PM »
Right next stupid question.
At some point in its life my 400 has had the cam chain adjuster bolt located at the front of the engine replaced with a none standard part. I now have the right bolt, washer, o ring & nut to replace the crap one.
What I can't figure out is, can I just remove the offending item and fit the new one or is it more involved.

Cheers

CB350/400 / Valve clearance 400-4
« on: September 26, 2015, 06:45:28 PM »
Hi guys.
Started to check the valve clearances the 400 this afternoon and all was going well until I got to no3 intake valve. Whilst trying to adjust it I noticed that the feeler gauge will not pass under the rocker arm as it is tight up against the top of the spring. It loosens off when the engine is rotated to adjust the other valves.

I've followed the manual to the letter checking and re-checking and it still arrives back at the same place.

Cheers

Misc / Open / 750 on ebay
« on: September 08, 2015, 09:01:49 PM »
I had a look at this today as it's only 5mins from my front door.

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=221873119841&globalID=EBAY-GB

It's in surprisingly good condition and from what I could see the faults listed in the description are all that's wrong with the bike. It started first time and sounds good to me. Might be a relatively cheap project for someone.

Very tempted, but that would mean delaying work on the 350 and yes I have made more progress on it. Just been a bit slow at updating pictures etc on here :-\

Misc / Open / Might be useful
« on: August 24, 2015, 07:45:56 PM »
Evening all.
Found this site earlier today.
http://www.motoannisettanta.com/Ricambi.htm

Click on the different manufacturers to see what parts are for sale. There is also a home button at the bottom of the page. The screen it takes you to has a link top right that has some other useful looking sites. Google translate comes in handy if you don't understand Italian.

Hope it proves to be of some use.

CB350/400 / Unexpected purchase
« on: June 08, 2015, 04:48:53 PM »
Went a car show a couple of weeks back and my wife spotted this for sale.

Well to cut a long story short she decided to buy it for me.
I was genuinely surprised, her logic behind the purchase was they seem to be going up in value.

The bike had been off the road for a number of years and was in bits until the guy selling bought it.
He spent £1400 on it in the last couple years putting it back together and getting it road legal.

Still a couple of things to sort out but apart from that it's a nice bike.

CB500/550 / Clattering sound.
« on: May 16, 2015, 05:40:30 PM »
Having neglected the 550 for a while and experiencing a points issue, I fitted a electronic ignition.
That seemed to have improved the bikes performance overall.

But, there is always a but. When I started the bike to take it out for a run today there is a rather nasty clattering/knocking sound coming from the back of the engine between the clutch and gearbox.

The clattering is not as noticeable when I increase the revs, it is still there none the less.

The electronic ignition has been checked an double checked.

When I pull the clutch in it's still there, when the bike has run for 5mins it's still there.

I'm at a loss really and would appreciate any advice.

Cheers

CB500/550 / How irritating.
« on: May 09, 2015, 03:31:14 PM »
As the 350 has been tacking up most of my spare time, I thought the 550 deserved a little bit of attention.

It's not been running particularly well lately, it runs out of power at 60mph and won't tick properly.  So I decided to try and figure out why.

Checked plugs, valves and static timing and it still played up. I was going to try a carb sync for the first time but there seemed little point if the basic's are  wrong.

Went back through what I had done, read some old forum posts. Then I noticed a problem with the points plate. The screw that adjusts the 1-4 points just spins around. So no matter how many times I set the points gap it wouldn't stay set. Now I'm sure this not the only reason for the poor running of the bike, but it's not going to help.

Time to order a new points set and try again next weekend.

Should have gone shopping with the wife ::)
