Wandering through Much Hadham today. A few 750's. Seemed to cover all bases, one fully restored, one customised, one a bit used.

If you have a bit of spare time, Norfolk and Suffolk Air Museum is just down the road  from Beccles, in Flixton. Plus Andy Tiernans Brit bike shop in Framlingham if you take a circuitous route to Leiston.

I was in Leiston the other day looking at the old USAAF station memorial there. AI also found out that the next village Theberton had a Zeppelin crash there in WW1. Church has a big piece of it inside, and the very friendly village pub has a little display board telling the story.

Is that the same as a front brake disc? :)

Just for clarity,......stops the starter working....when side stand is down or bike is in gear ( I assume it's the same on this bike as on mine).

Misc / Open / Re: Pension advice
« on: August 14, 2024, 07:47:22 AM »
Coming back to the original post, pensions are a complex area both in terms of how best to save and also what to do when it comes to taking money out.  Regulation in the financial services industry has moved on a huge amount since the eighties, so I would definitely say speak to a professional about this, even if it's just to learn from them and you ultimately make your own decisions.
Most firms will offer an initial hours discussion for free so that they can understand your requirements - and this should be no obligation - so book in with a few local companies and go and meet them and find someone you feel comfortable talking to. This will also give you a number of sessions to understand the industry jargon ( which they shouldn't use to much!), but don't ever feel concerned about getting them to explain things in plain English and until you understand it. Search for IFA's and pension advisers. You could also try some online ones...potentially cheaper but may feel more remote.
Look at fee structures too on their websites...some charge a %, which I feel is an ongoing charge against you, but some will charge a set fee to discuss, and set-up a financial plan and this feels, to me at least, a lot fairer.
Also, look at Government/ charity resources online beforehand - Citizens Advice has pension info to assist before you meet any advisers, so a good start point, so you hopefully understand a bit before you start talking.

I see some adverts saying things like (and I paraphrase here), ' don't worry about your pension...invest in something gold-plated....motorcycle..etc..'

For me, and for lots of us here, bikes are just fun/hobby/ moneypit etc..

CB350/400 / Re: Fairings for CB400F?
« on: August 06, 2024, 06:39:38 PM »
In the eighties my friend had a Rickman fairing and top box on his CB250 Superdream. The top box was adorned with a cardboard hand designed to flick the middle finger when a fishing wire was pulled....

400/4 front and rear wheel and 2x discs.
I'm thinking about £25 per wheel and £10 per disc, if anyone is interested. But feel free to pm me to discuss!
Wheels have unused tyres on but have been sitting on them for ten years or so so probably need replacing plus more generally checking over.
They are in Ware, but I'm heading Woodbridge/ Suffolk way for a bit in a few days so could also take them over there.

CB350/400 / Re: An unusual clutch cable failure?
« on: July 31, 2024, 07:14:54 PM »
What's the workaround for this? Start up, walk along to get the bike moving then click into gear. Keep in low gear. Plan ahead to stop and be ready to go into neutral before you stall. Probably ok in the country with little or no traffic, but not so easy in a town or city.

Or, take the cable cover off, shorten the cable run (reroute) then lash the cable end to the clutch lever ..somehow. ...that doesn't sound very practical as it's not so easy to tie notes in a cable 🙂.

Out & About / Re: Outdoor workshop
« on: July 28, 2024, 04:42:41 PM »
...should be riding - yes! but I rarely get a day to contemplate what needs doing to get things on the road again. Today I've been through my entire collection of long / disc-mounting bolts and worked out that they are all either too long or too short. - and found out that the long ones (even the only slightly-too-long ones)  catch the fork leg on the disc side.  Then I had time to think about cutting them all down to size....but they all have flange heads too, so won't fit without fouling the speedo drive cover....so I could grind off one side of the flange to make the fit, but..... should I just buy some new, correct ones..Which leads me to the conclusion that I might have to buy the correct ones...and spend money! Time well spent,!

I've also worked out, I think, that dual discs needs long bolts which will foul the speedo drive - and I'm sure all the posts I've read about twin discs talk about removing the speedo drive. It all starts to make sense, and nobody has challenged me to do 20 keepy-uppies either🙂⚽

Yes! It was largely what I had sitting around at the time and gave me twin discs. It has barely been used so I thought I would put it back to standard and then maybe a twin disc using 550 parts.

Out & About / Outdoor workshop
« on: July 28, 2024, 03:00:30 PM »
Amazing riding weather today, but the kids have been booted off to their grannies in Suffolk for the next two weeks (meaning no-one hammering a football against the garage wall...it's like being in a drum...., or asking me to play 'first to three goals'; and my wife is at the Latitude festival, also mile's away in Suffolk and won't be home today.

So I thought I would make use of my outdoor workshop, under the apple tree, as I put a new front end on my bike (swapping from a mix of cb650 forks, 400 wheels and Kawasaki brakes to a more original set-up). Absolute silence in the garden, virtually nothing driving through the village...and no-where I need to be apart from here. I feel a song coming on!
