Huh, so you don't like my idea if bending the ends We have a few sets to choose from though and this little lot was just in one tool chest in the engine building room.!!! Nice that you are buying new tools though. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

My new bars are definitely UK ones, here is a pic of the bars that were on the bike when I got it. Bike came in from Ohio, so I assume they are the standard US ones.
Looking at this pic now, those cables look long on those bars as well.
I wonder if your bike had really high ape hangers fitted at one time?

Yes it not in a bad condition, just decided it deserves a complete rebuild to look the part. Silencer needs replacing which I think will be the most expensive part other than the rim re-chroming. Stanchions need re-chroming as well. Yes it's a 'T' registration.
More cost effective to buy new rims rather than having them rechromed.

Well, it's mostly all there which is a good start. It is a very late registered one, is it a 79 on a T or V?. I thought mine was quite late as a 78 on a T. Enjoy your project, these are great bikes to work on as most parts are easily available, although getting more expensive as time goes on !!

CB500....clutch cable down through hole in clocks mounting bracket, along under off side of tank, over through between carbs 1 & 2, down to top of clutch housing. Throttle cables, over top of offside ear, down through and inside offside fork, along and under tank to big butterfly thingy. Can supply photos if needed.
Thanks Julie. By “offside” do you mean “right” and what is the “big butterfly thingy”? ;-)
Yes, offside is right side as sitting on bike. The big butterfly thingy is what I call the part on the top of the carbs where the throttle cables attach to. Just thinking, the CB500 I looked at here is a UK K1, not sure if it makes any difference it not.

Forget the above, I have just remembered you have a CB500 not a CB750.....doh. I will report back on the CB500 in a minute.

The clutch cable goes through behind the head lamp, to the rear of the off side fork, down the frame and into the clutch housing. The throttle cables go over the off side ear, behind the nearside fork and along onto the carbs. Can supply photos if needed. WRONG........SEE BELOW

Have you all got your wires crossed?. Are you talking 550 or 750 and how do you all know your bikes had standard bars fitted in the first place?

Snap (literally) Here is a pic of a broken push rod that has a very similar look to yours. These look like machined ends but are not, it is just a rotational wear pattern. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
