All this colour coding it's spreading everywhere it was bad enought working out what size shells I need -not used Plasigauge in decades my memory was of it being white - so for a 400/4 crank what colour do I use on the mains please - Red Grey or Green?
Secondly will it be sufficient to just secure the main (10) crank case bolts above the crank to get a reliable reading?
-
Definitely Green
Ask Bryan about the bolts but I just torque up the main bolts.

Thanks for that - then I measure the width of the squash - this then gives me via a table a clearance based on the ratio of the original size to the squash the clearance is that the idea?

The Plastigage is a filament that squashes between the crank journal and the shell when the cases are bolted together. It deforms to a permanent width film, the width of which is compared with the scale on the Plastigage packaging and is representative of the shell-to -journal clearance.

Yes just the main bolts
