Title: Parts availability
Post by: philward on August 14, 2020, 07:03:24 PM
Just stripping down 500K2 and there's some obvious parts I need that don't seem to be available - thought I'd ask the experts in case there is genuine or patern parts available from some obscure source (at non silly prices) that I haven't seen.

Rear chrome mudguard
Fork ears
Speedo/Rev counter chrome rear covers

None of the above are re-furbishable I'm afraid

As an aside, I am working on the parts as I strip it down and then box the re-furbed parts - I usually strip to frame and then refurb as I'm building back up. What's the norm for other members?

The K2 shared it parts with many other bikes, CB550 K0, CB550K1, CB550K2 and CB500T. If the clocks are correct for a K2, I have a speedo clock back ( that needs a re chrome) and here is a tacho >> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB500T-CB500-T-1975-1976-Rev-Counter-Tacho-Clock-Housing-Back/352312132108?epid=12017013441&hash=item520770820c:g:kEMAAOSwomJas90-

The headlight brackets are hard to find in good nick and the rear mudguard. Seeing the K2 was not sold in the UK, maybe you will get lucky on the USA site  ;)

I have seen 750 rear guards fitted and at one time a fiberglass replica was available.

Are you trying to do a full restore?

Thanks Guys - Graham, I'll message you - Bryan, yes full pragmatic standard rebuild, ie visually standard with stainless fasteners but not a purist rebuild
Does any other rear mudguard fit and look something like?

Just had a look and my speedo is probably re-furbable (its painted black but no scrapes/dents) and that DK one on ebay is scraped in similar nick as mine - thought there might be some new ones knocking about.
Fork ears are slightly bent but maybe salvagable if I can't new ones - rear guard is dented, split and rusty - not salvagable

Unfortunately the guard is knackered - 2 inch split, dented and rusty - happy to pay a few hundred squid - I just didn't think they where available. Found clock covers on Andy Kopak site so it's only the fork ears I'll have to try and straighten/rechrome

I am not sure what ears you have fitted to your K2 ? I have seen K2's with the early 550 ears that have the indicator stems through them and i have seen K2's with the 323 ears.

They are the ones with separate mounts in the middle - ie, not through headlight pivot (as k0/k1)

Hi Phil

I found a seller on eBay that is selling S/Steel seat hing pins if you buy another item like carb overflow rubber tubes postage is free.
I have extensively searched for speedo & Rev counter parts its very difficult to work out which route to take I need just the joining bands see CB750faces they are eye wateringly expensive then you got P&P  on top :'( :'(.

You may find that people in the USA have a better selection but as Graham & Julie say you got P&P plus Boris's cut to add on.

Graham & Julie & Ken and everyone else here have helped and guided me through what can and can not be used to return a bike back to a good standard ( Thanks you  :) :) )

Here are a couple of links that may help you with your project

Cheers Graham, I'll have a good look at those - mine are similar with slight creases in. Based are your feedback the main thing is I've established I can get replica guard and clock backs and will have to refurb headlight brackets.
As I've said before, I prefer the k0/k1 clocks and headlight setup but hey, I've bought the K2 now
Am enjoying basic standard rebuild though compared to having to modify everything as I go along as per last 2 projects (K6 cafe & CR Rep)

I've already bought them Nigel! and have the tubes on watch! Used the 750faces for my 750k2.
I've got the K6 cafe racer for sale at moment and when sold, there'll be a mass parts order going in to DS/CMSL! (I have bought the exhausts already)
Thanks for heads up anyway
