CB350/400 / Oops or **** it! Rear wheel re-spoke update
« on: September 27, 2020, 03:16:39 PM »
Hi all

£159 for a set of rims and spokes seems a bit cheap to me

Fitted alloy rims and stainless spoke from central wheel supplies for my project and total was over £400

IMO wheels are like brakes, they are a critical safety item. And one day your life may depend on them so you should buy the best you can afford

Hope you get it sorted Al

CB350/400 / Air box connection
« on: September 08, 2020, 07:12:01 PM »
Hi all

Hope you are all well

I have a question please

Just rebuilt my carbs and replaced the engine breather tube that connects to a side tube on the white plastic moulding below the air filter housing

But wondered where a hose that I guess connects to a spigot on the air box goes please as in theory the air box has a open leak if air is drawn thru this spigot rather than thru the filter?

I guess is just a drain but where please does it connect to or is it just a open pipe ??

Any advice welcome

Many thanks in advance Al

Yes my stainless spokes and polished alloy rims were supplied by central wheel

I think the later ones were the comstar wheels from the cb250n or 400n super dream but they are 19” wheels

A compromise is polished deep alloy rims and stainless spokes maybe?

This is what I did on mine and built them myself as I was feeling brave

Best wishes Al

CB350/400 / The Motad Exhaust that is fitted on my project CB400F2
« on: August 28, 2020, 09:39:09 PM »
Nice one

Motad wasn’t mine was it??

Sold on eBay early summer a complete system in almost  new condition as didn’t really think the Motad style / sound suited the CB400F look, but yes there was only one clamp on one of the headers and all four joints leaked like a sieve

Again the purists won’t like it but fitted a nice Dekelvic stainless system

It’s a nice system and uses a spring on each header to hold the headers in the single collector section

Sounds soooo much better with one of these home made tail bits fitted too

Makes me feel like a rebellious teen again and is nice match for the sound / noise my Higspeed GP pipes make on my rd

And cost for the Delkevic was really competitive too

Best wishes Al

CB350/400 / CB400F2 Carburetor question.
« on: August 21, 2020, 05:46:49 PM »
Are you screwing the pilot jet into the threaded hole that is used to secure the float needle seat holder??

I know it’s a silly question but they are the only two holes that are threaded and would make sense why both the float brass bit and the pivot pin don’t fit with the jet screwed into this hole

Best wishes Al

Ps

Forgot to mention that I 3d print for a hobby too

Here are a few example parts I print for the RD forum in ABS that are now not avaliable or second hand on eBay at some silly price

RD350LC horn cover

Battery strap

Replacement Ignition surround repair part for the kidney clocks

Even did a rd horn cover for the CB400f

I know most of the older CB’s are not masses of plastic parts like the RD but if I can help out at all please ask

Best wishes Al

Hi all

New member here just saying hello

Been hanging around on the USA site until Nurse Julie pointed me in the right direction

Long story but not been on bikes for a long time until about three years ago when got serious ill where my darling wife caught me on the ward reading a classic bike mag and after a short chat decided that I could have a bike again

Started off my first bucket list bike and fully restored a RD350LC back from a total eBay wreck

Then late last year she asked what was next and said I wanted a CB400F as a stable mate as this was my second bucket list bike

Again bought a reasonable bike that looked a bit shabby and spent the last six month tweaking

She is not original but I have added some changes such as a twin disc front end

Non standard exhaust

Rebuilt the wheel myself with alloy rims and stainless spokes

Rebuilt the clocks

And updated the front headlight with a halogen headlight and the Yamaha rd twin horn theme which I have alway likes the look off

Got a way to go yet but good enough to run for the summer (once I have cleaned and rebuilt the carbs due to it not ticking over smoothly)  and then once autumn is here plan then will be to finish it off with a full paint job tank and side panels and engine out for a complete strip and rebuild

Lastly just so I don’t get bored also building a hybrid that hopefully will be totally radical

Think that is all for now but again hi to all

Best wishes always Al
