Title: Tank Badges
Post by: adespin on July 06, 2018, 04:33:32 PM
So is this how it's done, or is there a better method. https://youtu.be/fdIWbR_MHVI

Blimey, that all looks a bit brutal. Get some fishing line and slide under the end of the badge and wiggle and pull towards you at the same time. Should come off if some muppet hasn't stuck it on with some type of epoxy resin. The little clip that holds the badge lug in the tank may come out with the badge or may stay put.

I’d argue that video is exactly how not to do it (unless you want to wreck the paint).

Fishing line method every time.

I personally use the line to bend the extreme lhs and rhs parts of the badge away from the paint initially (i.e trying to ‘flatten’ the profile of the badge so its well away from the paint. This only really works on the earlier style 760 k0-k2 and 500 k0-k2 style badges as they are more flexible.

Then get the line as close to each of the pins held captive by the tank and gently remove.

Once you have one out you can rotate the badge and ease the other out.

Just my approach...

Dental floss works well and you are more likely to have that to hand than fishing line. Unless of course you are a fisherman!

well i disagree..
if i was going to repint the tank and buy new badges  thats exactly how its done
( and if i wanted to buy a new filling knife)

Well i defiantly disagree ... if you are going to put new badges on, then just snap the old ones off  ;)

Well, I disagree.......even if you are removing the badges to have work done on the tank, there is no need to go at it like a bull in a china shop. A little bit if finesse is needed with some jobs 🙄🙄🙄

"Well i only asked" (said in a Bernard Bresslaw voice), only the old timers amongst you will get this.

Here I go, displaying my ignorance again. Where or what is Crich? I keep seeing comments about it, as if it's a jumble but apart from a small village in Derbyshire I can't find any references Crich and old bikes. I thought that it might be VJMC but 'area searched - no trace'.

Crich Tram Museum holds a classic bike day once a year. Last year and this, some of us on the forum used this as our annual meet. Great day out, all organised for us by Tim, (Rozabikes). Free to get in if you are on a classic bike.

It looks a good day out but it's a three hour drive from here and back again. Perhaps I could visit my sister?

Mick (Green1) and his Dad ride over from Essex. 3 years ago we all met up at the Sammy Miller Museum in the New Forest, that was another great day out.

Don't let the distance put you off.
180 miles each way for us. We meet up with petergreen about 50 miles from home and an hour into our journey.
So far so good close too but no breakdowns.
This year My 750 started running like crap at about 4000rpm with around 200 miles still left to go.
My dad on my 550 started having issues with still around 250 miles left to cover. The bike stopped running less then a mile from home on the return journey.
I should have checked the bikes over first but was too busy.  ::)
The 550 was an easy fix the plugs were blacker then black. I haven't looked at the 750 yet but I know the points are pitted so I guess there to blame.
