CB750 / Running On Two Cylinders
« on: August 02, 2018, 06:50:56 PM »
I recently rebuilt the carbs on the K1 including setting the float hights, but couldn't run the bike untill the exhaust fiasco with David Silver was sorted out. Now after fitting a new set from CMS which fitted great, i took it for a ride, ten minutes into the ride it started to misfire running on two cylinders, managed to get it back home which was not easy in hilly Wales. Touching the silencers revealed that it was only running on 1 & 2, while rebuilding the carbs i replaced the fuel pipes from carbs to petrol tap as the old pipes were crumbling at the tap ends and leaking. The new pipes i got off ebay which were 5mm bore thin walled. What i discovered was one pipe feeding cylinders 3 & 4 had kinked on the bend close to the tap stopping the flow.
So i can't rely on this fuel pipe from ebay. where do you guys and gals  get your fuel line from, and would you use 5mm or 6mm.

CB750 / Bad Fit Silencer
« on: June 24, 2018, 01:34:30 PM »
Has anyone had problems fitting new David Silver 341 exhaust system, I hit a problem fitting these on today, the outer pipe hits the rear brake pedal pivot on the top seam and will not pass it. The pipe is fully home in the exhaust port and lining up with the rear bolt.  As it's Sunday i'm unable to query this with DS.

CB750 / Jet Needle
« on: June 21, 2018, 08:43:20 PM »
While adjusting the float hights that were way out, with the all the jet holders removed i noticed that the jet needles were sticking out of the bottom of the carb bodies at differing lengths, so some ham bone has put the needle clips into different grooves. My question is, what is the procedure to get at the needles on a K1 and what what groove should the clips be in with 120 main jets ?

CB750 / Preserving New Silencers
« on: June 20, 2018, 11:20:32 AM »
Yesterday i ordered a new set of silencers from David Silver, K2 version for my K1 as i would like a quieter system and i'm not concerned with the performance drop (I'm an old git of 70) and they are also a damn sight cheaper than the K1's. Has anybody who has bought a new system taken any precaution against internal corrosion? i'm contemplating pouring a quart (thats an age thing) of engine oil into each silencer, giving it a good shake around then emptying out. Does anybody see a problem with this ?

CB750 / Main Jet Holder
« on: June 16, 2018, 04:32:03 PM »
Stripped the carb's down today to see why the K1 was running rough from idle to partial throttle. All the float levels were way out, but the main problem was number three carb main jet holder is bent, it felt odd unscrewing it (slack, tight and so on) and the needle end was taper ground to make it fit. This bike is a recent American import.
My problem is getting hold of one as David Silver doesn't seem to stock them, any ideas anyone?

CB750 / Cam Chain Tensioner
« on: June 12, 2018, 07:03:28 PM »
Looking through the Haynes manual for info on how to adjust the cam chain tensioner on the 750
k1, it seems a little vague, nothing about what position for the crank, or doesn't it matter?

CB750 / Touch Up
« on: June 01, 2018, 01:08:41 PM »
My Candy Gold K1 has a number of paint chips, as i am not ready for a respray just yet, i would like to just touch up the chips. Is there a close match to the colour available from the likes of Halfords or ebay.

New Member Introductions / Hello From Wales
« on: May 30, 2018, 08:20:45 PM »
Hello everyone, it's good to know that there is a forum catering for the greatest bikes of the 70's. Back in 1972 i part exchanged my Suzuki Hustler for a new black cb500/4, four days later while running  the bike in on a ride to Llandovery, a local vicar driving back from Sunday service drove across my path  to enter his driveway, wiping out me and the bike. Extensive damage to the bike and i ended up in hospital. After it was repaired i put it in for a new cb750 K2 in Blue, i loved that bike but as is the case, met a girl, married her, kids came along, so the K2 had to go. I've hankered after a cb750 ever since.
This week while browsing through Ebay i spotted a gold 1971 K1 in Lampeter (30 miles away) it's an American import with 14500 miles on the clock and in reasonable condition apart from the horrible 4 into 2 pipes. Well it's now sitting in my garage, it's great to have one again after 40 odd years. So now i have to save up for a set of original pipes and some other odds and sods. I'm looking for a side stand as none is fitted, probably because it interfered with the 4 into 2 exhaust (i forgot how tall and heavy these bikes were) but i can't find one on Ebay apart from those for a K7, don't know if that will fit. Also looking for a gold left hand side panel, mine is badly cracked and missing the bottom lug.
Anyway that's my story, hope to meet some of you in the future, anybody living in my neck of the woods, Llanelli, Swansea.
