Title: Vesrah gasket kits CB750 K1
Post by: WestYorkshireBiker on September 18, 2020, 06:21:10 PM
Long shot but I've ordered a Vesrah gasket set from Dave Silver for my 1971 K1, the part number of which (VG-157) does match the number on web site when searching for the K1. But the actual kit says it's for K4 / 5. Will this fit (to save me an email in Monday!!)? The 'actual' K1 is VG-156 after searching the interwebs. Trigger is your man on this but as far as I know the K1 head gasket is different as later bikes had extra 'knock pins' between the head and barrels.

Honda did issue a Bulletin on this but it involved a square section 'O' ring seal which were NLA the last time I checked but appear to be here as non-pattern parts.

CB750 head gaskets are a minefield, at least 3 different types fitted between 1969 and 1979  :o

For a 750K1 you need a Vesrah VG156 or you can use a VG157 and upgrade it with O'rings but not the ones in Ash's link ( they are only for Honda orginal head gaskets ) . With any after market gasket set, you can't use the O'rings supplied with the gasket set on the head or base gasket as they will not seal.

One of the hardest things is to get all the oil ways to seal up on any early CB750. If you need any upgraded O'rings to do this job, i hold stock of them  ;)

Cheers for clarification Graham.

Is the Vesram gasked decent quality? Is that what you fit?

Thanks. I'll get in touch with DS in the first place for the correct set as their website looks to have the wrong part for the K1 at least. Then I can send it back and get the correct one.  Thanks.

A good aftermarket gasket set and i have fitted more than a hundred in the past few year and never had a problem as, long as you up grade the o'rings  ;)

I have a Genuine Honda ( marked late K2) gasket set I am  using on my K0 Graham and intended to use the head gasket with the genuine square section seals,as  described in the Service
Bulletin linked earlier. Is there a known problem with that?
