29th is fine with me Gareth! 👍

Paraffin is a lot less flammable than petrol. I always used Paraffin in the past, but now I ride less miles I just use aerosol chain cleaner and chain lube.

Thumbs up for the big flat tin of Putoline chain wax, I use it on my Commando.

I brush the chain off with petrol first then it dry and boil it in the tin using a camping gaz stove in my garage.
Hang up to cool off and set the wax and your good to go for 500-1000 dry weather miles.

Chainmates a clever idea, but on my F1 that runs an O ring chain I stuff a bit of cardboard box up between the main stand and wheel to catch over spray mess when applying Silkolene chain lube.
Cardboard costs nowt...

Oh, BTW is it not the norm to apply chain lube on the inner run of the chain so the oil is flung out thru the chain when in operation?

Yes, always apply lube to the inner run of chain. 👍 Lube applied to outside run of chain just gets flung off easily.

Skoti, you make me nervous using petrol to clean chain , then using naked flame on camping stove! 🤔

Gareth

Is there any chance it could be on Saturday 29th as I can make it there and back in a day, on Sundays the ferries are ten and four making it necessary to stay over two nights to be there...if that's convenient with the others of course

I'm OK with that. Will that be a problem for anyone else?
If anybody has made bookings and can't change them, we'll stick to 30th.

Oil pressure will reduce as the oil gets hotter and "thinner". It's worth checking the switch and the oil pump.
If they are not the problem you might have a bigger problem developing.

Personally I would consider draining out the tank and start with new petrol - diesel is not good for the piston rings.

Is that true Ted, or just a feeling?
One litre in a full tank of about 18litres can't make too much difference. Not recommended,  but not disastrous.

One of my favourite rides is from Tyndrum heading east to Killin and then turning off at LixToll towards Aberfeldy, lunch in historic Kenmore by the castle gates and then into Aberfeldy turning right for Crieff over the high road and then back to Tyndrum and Oban..
It's a super ride riding on the hillside road alongside the length of Loch Tay....bet you've done that and more Gareth 😊👍

Yes, that's a lovely route, and the roads for me to get there. Killin and the Falls of Dochart are a good place to stop. 👍 On the nadgery little road on the other side of Loch Tay is the Cave where Monty Python filmed the killer rabbit scene in Holy Grail!

I'd never heard of Ailsa Craig outboard motors before. To me it's an island just off the West coast of Scotland that is a major source of granite for curling stones. Not heard of the veggies either!  ;D

No worries 👍

Something strange is going on with some of the Gallery pictures. The first 8 or so pics have suddenly jumped up to 1800+ views but other pics are near normal numbers of views.
Any clues?

Hi Gareth,
If all goes to plan I will be back in plenty of time from my little jaunt to Germany and Austria on the Forza, so should be able to use the 550 for the trip.  I think I might stay somewhere nearby for a night either side.  How long were you planning on staying after we've all got fed and watered?  I could probably stay at my Sister's place in Aberdeenshire and catch the Ferry home  the next day

Ian

Hi Ian,
I can stay all afternoon as required.  I'm less than 2hours from Crieff.

Teenybop, we can always do it again if people want to.

I'd be looking to come too, that would be great 😃

Hubert

Good stuff, Hubert. 👍

If there are no objections the meet up will be on Sunday 30th June.
I'll be there from about 1100 onwards. Looking forward to meeting everyone who can make it.

Shouldn’t be a problem John booking now for next year. Having said that there is the island games held here next year 12 - 18th July not sure if that would be a problem for you.
I am feeling inclined to go middle of June,

Guessing a about an 18day jaunt,

Mind, I might have to cut it short if I run out of Avon spray

🤣 Plenty of midge sprays available in most shops where it's a problem.

A couple more places to see in Scotland are V&A museum and Captain Scott's ship RRS Discovery in Dundee, the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel, the Forth Bridges (Biker's Cove in South Queensferry for pitstop and viewpoint).
