I've found out that Yellow main bearing shells are now obsolete. Silvers are out of stock, cms only have one shell left. Can any other be used?

Looking good. Best of luck to your wife on her re-test. I'm still at the buying parts ready to rebuild the engine stage. My son is doing the frame, wheels, wiring and wheel collaborate on the rest.

I think I've worked this out correctly.....here goes

Mains measure 31.978mm, Big ends 31.983mm, Crankcase letters are BBBBA

Crankshaft is 1A 1A 1A 1A 1

Conrods are 2C 2C 2C 2C

I think I need Mains Green, Green, Green, Green, Yellow

Big ends Brown, Brown, Brown, Brown.

Could some very kind fellow forum member confirm that for me please?

CB350/400 / 1975 CB400/4 Shells
« on: October 03, 2016, 02:08:40 PM »
Hi,

My crankcase is marked BBBBA. I need both Mains and big end shells. The crank has been checked and has minimal wear. Mains are 31.978mm, Big Ends 31.983mm. Can anyone tell me which would be the correct shells to go for please?

If ever a decision was regretted it was not being there to double check what media was being used to blast the engine with.

The engine was in a very poor state. It had been kept in a damp leaking lock up for 26 years and was very corroded. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there when it was done. One massive lesson!

The whole engine was blasted.

I had my CB400F engine casings wet blasted by someone that came highly recommended. Instead of using glass bead he used ground glass which was far too abrasive. Would getting them re-blasted with glass bead help to smooth them over? Or, am I destined to spend the next 10 years polishing them up?

To those extolling the virtues of Tesco own brand oil......it is all made and bottled by Tetrosyl in Bury. As is Sainsburys oil and most other own brand oils. They make and market the Carlube range of oil.

Valvoline 4T Motorcycle oil. Specifically for bikes and bloody good quality. I used to use Valvoline durablend 10/40 in my old GL1100.
