Title: newbie from yorkshire
Post by: Andy1976 on July 16, 2008, 11:16:08 PM
Hi everyone I'm Andy from wakefield West Yorkshire.I'm restoring a CB750F1. I have had it recently rebored and I am starting to put the engine back together now that I have managed to find replacement pistons. Iam hoping to have it running for the Lotherton Hall show at the end of the month(27th july). This is my first restoration project and I will post some pictures as soon as I've sussed out how to do it.
                        See you soon, Andy

P.S. how co I check that the colour of my bike is original? It's blue and I don't think it's right.

Hi Andy and welcome, my 1976 F1 was originally red but is now black due to me fitting and F2 tank and seat, the only colours that I have seen an F1 in are red and yellow, but there was a blue F2 so it may be an F2 tank. You can probably tell by the tank stripes the F1 has pin stripes rather that the big flash on the F2, and all F1's had grey side panels.

Cheers

Den

Hi Mike + Den. I've tried the link that you posted and it is registered blue. On my tank there are no stripes at all, so it might have been re sprayed at some point. Also the side panels are the same colour  as the tank. I would post a picture for you to look at but I don't know how to do it. Thanks, Andy  ??? ??? ???

Nobody can tell you what the original colour was, not even Honda, so as long as you stay to a produced colour you will be OK. At least you can get to RS in Barnsley to get the paint! Post the frame number and i will let you know the colour options but do it in the specific bike post not here.

Thats a strange one as I remember the F1 in 76 being Yellow or Red(as per the ID book). The 2 colours i gave on your other post were US only, is yours an import?

I think my bike my be an import but I'm not 100% sure. According to the log book it was first registered in the UK on 01/04/1976. Are there any significnt differences between imported and UK models?

Just the obvious ones.

Higher bars
Huge rear light
Running lights? (Not sure about this for 76 though)

Show us a picture or two and we'll soon have it sorted out!

Couple of points:

Other than that - looks like a UK model - just repainted at some time.

Oh, your tax has expired too.

The grab rail is bolted on to the plastic seat hump.I'm going to take this off as it's not very secure. My key snapped off in the ignititon switch and I can't get the broken piece out, so I'll have to replace it.
What would you recommend I do with re painting it, should I go for candy sapphire blue which Brianj pointed out or should I be going for a UK spec colour?

Unless you want to enter competitions, it doesn't really matter. Go with what you like.

Get a set of prpoer decals though as that will put the finishing toch on it. They're not cheap but will bring back the original look.
