I am finally looking at getting one of these carb Balancer kits. One of the 4 gauge ones.
It seems that there are a few sets of 4 gauge ones on "that" auction site. Starting at 25 quid.
So my question is..... Is there much difference between the 25 quid sets and the 60 quid ones. I guess the more expensive ones are more accurate?.
Or are the cheaper ones good enough.

Bought a set of Morgan Carbtune mercury gauges over 30 years ago, they never need calibrated.
They do 2,3 and 4 cylinder engines, carb or fuel injection.
The cheaper analogue type gauges often get knocked around and go easily out of sync, don't waste your cash...

Word of advice anything less than the Sealey set aint worth it, i bought the cheap blue steel ones with clear tube plastic damper taps and brass adaptors, gave up on first use and spent out on the sealey ones which are the nearest i have ever found to genuine Honda and have worked superbly plus come with multiple adaptors and proper hose.
Ebay item no 353913897586 is the chapest but £137, gone up £30 in 6 years

See if you can get a set of used Davida gauges, lovely bit of kit. I bought a set on ebay for £50 and they work a treat.

God no Dave, the Davida is an awful bit of kit. I bought one when I came out of the trade so I could keep doing foreigners but one gauge went out of sync with the rest, the damping is automatic and doesn't really work. I used them 2 times and threw them away in the end, needles bouncing all over the place etc, wasn't even worth keeping to use the 3 gauges left.
The Sealey kit looks like my present ones except mine are black and came from the states. They are as Bryan says a close copy to the genuine Honda gauges. Not as good but close.

And it's also inaccurate Ted, it's ok as a starting point but getting them spot on using that method is just luck IMO.

That's what I have always done. If all the carbs do the same thing, it's a starting point. For some reason, I have the urge to see how "balanced" they really are.
I think the 2 single carb bikes are free of sin.
4 of the Suzuki triples might show something of interest.
4 of the 4 stroke twins are ideal for a look at...... except they all don't have take off points for carb balancing
the only in-line 4 is an ideal candidate.
I need to check how many of these bikes actually can be carb balanced. The xs650 and cl450 dont have the necessary bits. I thought they all did.

Guy near me restores 400F carb sets and makes a superb job (better than Gerben IMHO) but just does them on carbs he buys not for other people. He even fits them to his own bike to set them up before selling them. He uses a set of Davida gauges all the time (same as mine) and says he has never had a problem with them.

If you've ever used a good set of gauges Ash, you'd realise just how crap the Davida ones are. Seriously bad.

All I can say Ken is that both the guys own 400F and my mates 400F, set up by the carb restorer sounded really sweet after he had tweeked them with the Davida gauges. . If mine end up being setup as well as those two engines I will be happy. He also had an I.R. thermometer for checking the temperatures of each header during setup.
