CB500/550 / cb550 k3 new drive chain
« on: May 28, 2020, 12:11:27 AM »
Hello, Once upon a time standard drive chain seemed to be easy to get.  Nowadays every thing seems to be o-ring or x-ring or super heavy-duty.
Well this 550 has done some 40,000+ miles in the past with standard chain.

So my question is ..... is standard DID chain still ok?.  I have new JT sprockets and will get a new chain as well.  Or is there a new brand of chain I should be using.

Thanks

CB500/550 / cb550 k3. Fitting those carbs. Any tips?
« on: May 06, 2020, 01:50:37 AM »
Hello. I have owned my cb550 k3 from new.  I have had the carbs off maybe twice during that time.  The bike has been apart for a significant restoration/re-build.  After 45000 miles it needed new rings and the frame + all those other bits have been powder coated .  They had finally become well scruffy.
So Its just about all back together.  New tyres & battery + other consumables - even the brake hose needed changing.
So the carbs have been fuel tested and finally no leaks. Now to put the carbs back on the bike..... almost the last job.
How did they do this in the factory.  Did they "lean" the engine forward by removing the engine bolts.  The fit is so tight.  I was just wondering if there is a way of fitting them easier than making a mess of the carb to airbox rubbers.

CB500/550 / Ok, I have to ask...... tyres for a 1976 cb550k3
« on: March 26, 2020, 09:27:20 AM »
Its been a few years since I bought tyres for the cb550.  I have bought bt45's/Metzelers for most of my other bikes but a set of Avon Roadrider MkII seem to be a good price for 3.25/4.00

Just wondering if anybody else has tried them.

Hello, I am pleased to see that there is a UK forum for the sohc bikes.  I have several Honda bikes.  And like most people I have owned a cb250 G5...... in the past.  Also a cb360G5 which was fast enough to catch a shopping trolley...... wish I still had it - the bike that is.
I have owned, from new, a cb550 K3 which is still being rebuilt after a long sleep in the shed.  Along with several 2-strokes I also have a CL450 K5.  I know this has more than 1 cam but it is a honda and a great bike  too.
I know that the modern bikes are impressive things compared to the older bikes but the newest bike I own is a 1977 suzuki.  Old and historical.  Bit like the rider.
