I've filled in loads of these petitions I'm I'm yet to see a positive response. At least we'll get the opportunity to vote them out shortly, but then again are the alternatives any better ???

Yup, there's a whole load of tax in the fuel price, but there is also a whole load of greed involved too, and by this I mean speculators.
There's a story going a round that in 2008 when the price of diesel was at 134p/litre this was due to speculators 'parking' 3 mega tankers off the coast of England and watching the price go ever higher.
The rest is up to us. If we used fossil fuels a lot less there'd be a surpluse and the price would eventually come tumbling down.
Well that's my theory.....and I'm sticking to it ;D ;D ;D

I'll go with supply and demand.
I've just ditched my 35mpg Focus for a diesel (55mpg)
Never thought I'd own a diesel, but its pretty good (1.6 Ford Duratorque)
110 bhp but 260 Nm which is nearly double the 1.8 petrol that I had before!
-
The only people to make real money out of oil products are the Government and the speculators, I worked for Shell for 40 years and the margin on petrol is tiny, compared with the governments "slice".
Cheers

I wasn't blasting at Shell in particular, in fact Shell in my area is only the dearest because they round to the nearest penny, Morrisons will be 113.9

Steve,
What's the calculation to show when (in total miles) diesel is economically beneficial compared to petrol?
I've heard that it in the region of 10,000+ miles per year, but I don't understand how they get to that figure as the prices fluctuate so much (by fluctuate I mean in one direction.......up).

Here's a handy site I use.

In Melbourne there seems to be some sort of weekly price cycle.
It goes up on a Thursday evening (just in time for the weekend?) and then it goes back down by the same amount a few days later.
Haven't fathomed out why yet. It's currently around $1.20 a litre.
