Title: Can I get rid of air assistance on forks???
Post by: hairygit on September 07, 2012, 05:47:51 PM
Any of you guys converted air assisted forks to conventional? Reason I'm asking is my good lady has a 650 shitehawk (sorry, Nighthawk :-[) and she has to stand on tip toe when stationary, so I want to drop the front forks in the yokes about an inch, but because the link pipe for the air assistance runs under the fuse cover, it doesn't look possible unless I can get rid of the air set up. Any ideas?????

Reconnect it over the top, disconnect the link and put a valve into each leg or if not put some spacers over the springs

I've just blocked off mine using bolts and o-rings. I haven't ridden enough miles to see if this is problematic at all.

(Main reason was because the 'box of bits' I built my bike from didn't have a long enough airline and was missing one of the connecting valves. Looks rubbish too!)
