I want to cure my oil filter housing and sump pan in the oven after painting with Simoniz, will 220 dec for a couple of hours do? People speak of wanting an old oven rather than the one in the kitchen.... any reason for this that matters?

Smell probably? ;D

I'll just tell the neighbours I'm cooking Crankcase Casserole!

When I did my heat curing I fully cleaned the oven first to avoid any residual fat burning as I did not want to risk it tainting the paint finish.
Using my now very clean oven did not cause any undue smells - not as bad as my self cleaning oven cycle in fact.

Turkey roasting oven bags help contain the oil or paint smell.
I use an old sieve turned upside down to keep the bag off the newly painted items.

Surely that would make it smell fowl? :o Actually, it is no problem because every day I get the smell of curry, here is a chance to shoot back! ;D

This was my DIY oven made during 1st Covid lock-down, as I couldn't get into work to cure my paint. Paint was Duplicolor though. Missing is the lid made out of high temperature insulation composite board. Heater was a 99p off eBay NOS cooker oven element (nobody else bid on action :D) and thermostat was £5 from China.
I couldn't use our domestic oven as wife is acute asthmatic.

Love that. You can bake your spuds for tea too.👍
