Is there a particular tank bag that folks here like for the CB400? I use the SW Motech types that lock onto a tank ring on several of my other bikes but that's not an option with the 400.

Never used them, the tank on the 400 is so small I think most tank bags would be bigger than the tank 😊😊😊. I always use a ruck sack.

Good point re tank size! :)

I used to use one in the olden days on my 750 as it had a clear pocket which I used for maps, no sat nav in those days.
Cheers

Tank bags are a pain in the arse. You have to remove them to fill up with fuel and it scratches the paint on the tank ;)

If you're riding solo, use a tailpack or rucksack. 👍

Old habits die hard, I prefer something over my shoulder, they settle on the back seat better than you'd think too.

I was out last week and stuck my iPhone to the tank with some bluTac - worked great!
I've never like wearing a backpack while riding. But as mentioned, the tank is too small for a tank bag anyway. So something strapped to the seat is probably my best option if I need to carry a few items.
Re that - we are on the IOM at the moment - stuck here for an additional 4 days due to the air traffic system problem in the UK...no flights to Bristol until Friday. We were supposed to leave yesterday - waited at the airport for four hours after check-in until they quit saying "delayed" every 30 minutes and said, "cancelled". Anyway...While here we rented motorbikes, as we always do and this year I had a Honda 1000 with a top box. I didn't ask for a bike with a top box and would never mount one on my own motorcycle but I certainly have to admit it was extremely handy. But even if I decided I could deal with the look on one of my other Motos (unlikely), I couldn't handle the appearance on my CB400!

Why not use the ferry? There are a few sailings every day.

If I have to go on a long trip on the bike (rare!) I use an Oxford Mini Tank Bag. It is magnetic, small and has a safety strap. But unless your paint is not perfect I don't recommend it as it could mark the paintwork. My Guzzi paint is probably cellulose as on a very hot day, the magnets in the bag left textured marks in the paint.

We tried - no ferry "seats" to Liverpool available until Thursday and might as well wait one more day/fly to Bristol.

The smallest Harro fits.
I use it since 1986, think it is produced again by a new company.
