Welcome from the other end of the UK. Don't know the land side of West of Glasgow very well (only the Airport) but used to sail out of Inverkip quite often, beautiful place, fantastic sailing

How about planning to go round in a big circle ?. That would probably give more people a chance to just come along for a day ride or an overnight stay, or 2 days or whatever they fancy.

Wow, don't it just make you want to take the old bike out for a ride. That looked like a real fun day out.

I am a little concerned with the phrase "Having never ridden before,"

that is why I advised going with standard,
I agree with Johnwebley on this one, as you havn't ridden before I would go with bog standard bars. Learn how to handle the bike properly first and then swap around if you still fancy it. Also, having not ridden a bike before, how will you know if its handling / steering right if you go away from the standard. I've tried all the different ones on different bikes over the past 35 years and even though comfort is important, it's what you feel through the bars that is more important to me.

Yes, stuck out in the sea in Kent, especially if you live where I do at Dungeness !!. I get a more accurate weather forecast if I watch the French forecasts than the local UK one  ;D ;D ;D

Somewhere I have a photo of me and some friends when we were Student Nurses in 1980 outside the Nurses Home at Pembury Hospital in Tunbridge Wells. There were 4 of us with Bikes, I think mine was the KZ 400 in the pic, and my friend had a 400 of some sort and we had the tank resprayed in pearlescent pink with a picture of the Pink Panther painted on it. Seemed a good idea at the time !!!

I always tell people to try the post office insurance but, always worth shopping around.
The best years ago was the rider policy that norwich union used to do.
The Norwich Union Rider policy was one of the best. I wonder if there is anything like that available these days ?. After the N.U. policy finished I used to ride all my bikes on a Motor Trade policy. Easy, as you could ride anything but 3rd party road risks only. That was ok for the old heaps of junk but I had a 3 month old CBR 600 written off in a flood about 1990, I mean totally wrecked, and the insurance company wouldn't pay out. These days you can actually have fully comp on bikes on Motor Trade Policies but even at my great age it's about £1400 per year  >:( >:(
