Title: The Angry thread
Post by: hairygit on March 08, 2018, 12:35:46 PM
As the title suggests, what really hacks you off about the modern world. I could write a huge list, but curious to see what bugs you other guys and girls.  Some of my real pet hates.,.......... American style office speak, a couple of weeks ago the district nurse phoned about re arranging her visit, and said  "I'll see when I have a free window and we can touch base." WHAT???? When did that kind of gobbledygook become part of our language? The first part of the statement makes no sense, the second part sounded like an unpleasant procedure!   And don't get me started about "Text speak". I hate it with a vengeance, it's offensive, my daughter knows if she texts me to use proper English, otherwise I ignore it. And why are people so lazy as to use " Text speak" in e-mails? There is no justification other than laziness.  Rant NOT over, but what gets your back up?

1) Cotton wool society
2) Too much Hi Vis. Even see kids with them on.
3) Government's telling porkies and the muppets  believing it.
4) The Guy that takes is child to school by car, when the Village school is 100 yards away with no roads to cross.
5) Bikers and other road users that never look in there mirrors.
6) Customers who think they know better than me and think I was born yesterday.
7) firms that say they can do a job/ work and haven't got a clue what they are doing.
8 ) Phone calls all day saying I have been in a accident or PPI or solar panels or free boiler ( Ask for the free boiler to be delivered and you will fit it  :o Tell the solar people that you need sun for them to work  :o Tell the PPI and accident callers that you want there company name and address because, you will send them a invoice for your time  :o :o
9) Turn up for an appointment at the time they gave you and then kept waiting  >:(
10) Seller on Fleabay that are trying to sell parts that are totally listed wrong.

That my grumpy old gits top TEN  ;)

How about muppets walking along listening to their I pods or whatever, staring at the phone in one hand and drinking Costa/Starbucks etc coffee from a cardboard cup through a plastic lid (reminds me of a baby's feeder cup) walking straight out in front of you as you ride along, then hurling abuse at you as if it's your fault! Then watching them walk past a rubbish bin and just drop the cup on the floor!

Racism, I hate that, it's petty and small minded, so are most prejudices. I also don't have a lot of time for excessive political correctness.
Compensation culture, I plain do not agree that everything needs to be pinned to one individuals fault, since most of the time it comes down to lots of flawed choices by often not just any one party That said, whilst I get cross about the archetypal, I was given the wrong sort of ladder and fell off ads on tv, I have had a job where you were given unsuitable kit, and folk were sent packing if they objected and eventually I fell foul of that, wound up un employed and the first thing the job centre said when I informed them of the circumstances was that it wasn't legal. Not worth persuing though. Move on, learn from it.
Auto correct, both a blessing and a curse, it keeps altering what I type, sometimes to complete indecipherable gibberish. At least a spelling error is normally self evident, if it corrects to something totally different it's worse than bad spelling.
Finally deliberate miss selling of stuff, if it's rough, sell it as rough, don't slap a coat of paint over it and say it's restored. Personally I prefer to buy rough, not restored, that way I know what problems lurk and not hidden under paint and polish.

Wow, love this thread, I can see it going for many pages. I agree with everything so far, though my biggest hate is the lack of common sense.
As a child, I had many accidents, so I know not to touch things that are hot, tease dogs until they bite you.
Whilst I am not racist, I still cannot believe the Political Correctness of no Golliwogs on Robertson Jam.

Thanks for reaching out to us with that one hairy

'Reaching out' - that's the flavour of the month within our American led company and it makes me increasing ill whenever I hear it.......

On a similar subject theme I was watching the evening news last night to be told about criminals who had been 'rumbled' - what ever happened to standards ?

This list could go on forever, but I would have to say my overiding hate is people's inability to take any kind of responsibility for their own actions or situations - it's always someone else's fault ......

Better stop now, can feel this evolving into a rant ....

Andy (not presently reaching out ...... )

My turn!🤓

Like a great many on this forum we are being bombarded by phone calls offering shite we don’t want.  I’m sure that if I hid my number and started making nuisance calls, I would soon get my collar felt by Plod.  We are ex directory and have often said that we want to be removed from their lists - never happens.

There was a time when this crap all came by mail and in true Victor Meldrew fashion I took great delight in opening these letters and sending bank stuff to Readers Digest and Everest brochures to the bank using the reply paid envelopes  - can’t vent my spleen that way now.

And another thing! listen to some of these gobshite politicians using the expression ‘going forward’ 20 times in a 3 minute clip.  We can only ever go forward - I’m 69 in June and would dearly like to find a way of going backwards.

Elf an Safety is tampering with the gene pool - in the old days if some idiot climbed a tree and fell out that was one less idiot.  Now they’ve got harnesses, hard hats and rubber mats to land on - they are still feckin’ idiots and go on to produce even more idiots - hence skewing the results.

How often do we have to shut down and restart computers when they freeze? and they want us to have driverless cars - not me!

Then they fly 1000 delegates and the entourages halfway around the World to a conference to discuss climate change.

Must go now, Nurse is here with my afternoon tea and medication,

Ian

Ooh, Global warming and climate change, biggest load of Bul**hit EVER. 10,000 years ago, the whole of Europe was covered in an ice sheet, then, over a 10-15 year period, the Earth warmed up, and it melted, forming the seas around us. Do politicians REALLY think cavemen drove V8 Range Rovers and had coal fired power stations???? The Earth has heated up and cooled down many times during it's existence, Global warming is just an excuse to tax the hell out of everything we rely on, coal, oil, gas, petrol, diesel etc >:( >:( >:( >:(

No they drove these, everyone knows that:

Speaking of politicians, I hate one who says 'As I have made perfectly clear' then comes out with a load of meaningless drivel.

(http://Then they fly 1000 delegates and the entourages halfway around the World to a conference to discuss climate change.)

True story, Prince Charles chartered his own private train, hauled by Tornado, a large new build express steam loco, to bring him from Preston to Manchester so he could make a speech about the environment.  ::) I love the loco, I was one of the shareholders when it was being built, but couldn't he see the irony in burning several tons of coal to come and lecture us about 'green issues', instead of maybe getting on a train that was coming here anyway?

The world has gone through a load of ice age periods, been bombarded by tons of meteorites, had volcanos exploding all over the place. I don’t think a carrier bag will do it any damage. When the human dies out, this planet will just think, that was a bad case of fleas  ;D ;D ;D

Some God fearing friends of mine do not like me refering to the human race as tiny parasites crawling around on an insignificant little rock.

But yes, how many roll on deodrants do I have to use to make up for a few seconds of everyday volcano belching? They should try banning them, or put a prohibition order on Etna or something.

I'd better go before I get started on catalytic bloody convertors and batteries for electric cars.....  >:(

The DVLA selling the same item to two different people - if I did that on eBay, I would no doubt end up behind bars.  Wait a minute though, I would get 3 meals a day, a sky box and free membership to a gym!

Me now;
1. 'Celebrities' who when interviewed on TV constantly say 'yeah but No'.
2. Arrogant BMW and Audi drivers who think they own the road and everyone else should move over (it used to be just the salon drivers but now it's all of them).
3. A government that states the NHS is safe in their hands (or anything is safe in their hands).
4. Politians who blame 'the previous administration' for their own mistakes.
5. BBC and ITV for failing to acknowledge any form of bike sport exists even when a Brit wins a race (crutchlow) or is a world champion (Tai Woffinden). But giving loads of airtime to football, rugby, show jumping, F1 and cricket.
Got to go, the news is on......

The Ar*****es on Ebay, who constantly try to rip people off by getting a pic off Google of old rare bikes, cars, boats etc and trying to flog something that they don't own.

'Selling on behalf of my Grandad, please email him directly'

The same pics are on there day in day out but different sellers, different parts of the country.
They start the ads at 99p, as soon as they are taken down, they pop back up under a different seller.

Banks that have 5 'floor walkers' but only one window open when the queue is out the door. Self service checkouts in supermarkets. The numpty that keep threatening to send me to prison for not having a TV licence when I don't have a TV. Drivers going 20mph in a 40. The NHS. The Government. People / companies that over promise and under provide. Local authorities that tell me what I can and can't put in my dustbins. PPI calls, 'You have had an accident' calls, 'You need a new Gas Boiler' calls when there is no gas in the village and we all have Oil heating. Mobile phone providers that tell ne I need a package that costs £30 a month when I actually only pay £5 a month and get everything I need for that amount.

While we’re in the bank queuing and being hassled by the floor walkers, the customers who think it’s ok to have a long chat once they get served or want to know the full minutiae of every little item on their bank statement.

And the bank that thinks my local branch is unecessary and thinks I have nothing better to do than play ducks and drakes with the €$¥§ traffic wardens in a nearby town.

damn bearded check-shirt-wearing london hipsters and the custom bike scene.  i've just had a rant on another forum about this. perfectly good classics being butchered for fashion. a few years from now, enthusiasts will be cutting off the seat hoops and the stupid brown seats, and the frankly dangerous firestones, sanding off the 'old 59' logo on the tank and searching desperately for the parts that were binned earlier in order to return these lovely classics to their original condition. i dont have an issue with custom bikes as long as the base bike is too costly to restore or is a bit of a wreck, but why cut up a classic???

Yeah, those cold callers do piss me off, If I'm in the mood not to just hang up, say my coffee is too hot to drink just yet, I have developed a few ways to waste their time, the new  boiler crowd just love it when you take 5 minutes of their time then explain you only burn wood in your heater. Or the old reliable just saying hello in a silly voice, I have had a few start swearing at me after doing that, they could always try not phoning me up if they dislike me wasting their time.
Banks, I can barely get to an open branch these days, useless bastards close most branches, the nearest one is shut appart from the hours I'm generally working, makes paying in cheques a pain in the butt but that is how customers like to pay sometimes. I think the whole celebrity culture we have is pathetic. Especially the so called talent shows. American politics, do not get me started, especially their gun laws, yes I see the appeal of toys but at the point kids are losing their lives just going to school, it is time to put the things away.

Don't get me started on banks almost all building firms still pay me by cheque as well. It can take weeks before I get the time to pay them in.
People on the books that think I'm raking it in because I'm self employed. What they fail to realise is I don't get paid for being ill or going on holidays company van or fuel. My day doesn't end a 4:30 and my home is like a builders yard because all work crap follows me everywhere I go.

I saw the outcome of the debate/public meeting about that the other day. The mayor has gone back on his previous plans to encourage motorcycling in the city, he now want walking, cycling or public transport to be the only way to get around London. He stated that yes, there would be a place for motorcycles in his plan, but only as a means of doing deliveries to get some small commercial vehicles off the roads. The man is a complete and utter t#at!

I get the feeling I must be the only person in the U.K that finds football totally boring and cannot abide it. >:( >:( I hate the way it suddenly takes over everything, T.V. schedules get disrupted, all anybody seems to talk about is football, even the BBC news is p**sing me off when it's the lead story every day, repeated every 30 mins on the breakfast news, for heaven's sake there is REAL news out there that barely gets 30 seconds of coverage! (Another 2 people critically ill after coming into contact with that Russian nerve agent, far more important than Gareth Southgate's bloody waistcoats! :o) I mean let's face it, football, 22 overpaid prima donna's kicking a bag of wind between a couple of sticks? Whoopee, let's go beat someone up or stab them (or trash Ikea) because they don't like the same team you like, what's that all about????? ??? ??? ??? I drive a bus for a living, could you imagine I stop for a passenger, open the doors, take their fare, then my manager jumping on the bus hugging and kissing me for doing exactly what I'm paid for??? Footballers are paid OBSCENE amounts of money for what they do, so why when they actually do what they are paid for is there a homosexual outbreak on the pitch?????? Rant over!

They are all sheep Hairy ;)

Had a woman park her Fish van and walk up the drive a couple weeks ago. She announced that her name was Jenny and she was my local fish supplier, i answered her back in a strong Irish accent " god dumb it woman, i don't even have a pond "  ;D ;D ;D She turned quickly and got back in her van.

you can laugh, but golf is like the TT races.you compete against the course, sometimes as a team, and the lowest score normally wins.
it also is a self policing game rules wise ,very little cheating,as other mark your score ,if you are caught cheating,no one will ever trust you again.

its worse than handball and diving in football !!!

plus you find a great bunch of mates, and get out in the fresh air regulary !!

trying to buy a coffee for the missus on the motorway on the way home from holiday yesterday. A long counter at star*ucks (insert a letter of your choice) with no other customers, 4 people behind counter doing who knows what. I tried to catch someones eye but no luck until one of them asked me "can i help you", well yes i would like a coffee, its not hard to work out. So then she has to write it down, one black coffee and one tea, then asks me my name despite the fact i am the only customer, then tells the spotty youth standing next to her what to make. oh and it tasted shit and we didn't drink it all!

Football! Bah humbug, please do not get me started on that one, a fun game to play, sure but the professional players and their ludicrous levels of pay, prima Donna antics pretending to be in agony after every tackle in the poorest show of bad sportsmanship trying to get a foul awarded. I just do not get watching football. Like I say good fun to play. I preferred Hockey and kept playing a few years after school, at least you got a stick to bash others shins in. Gave it up after the refs kept stopping play if I headed the ball. To be fair I think it was because the ball ain't meant to be hit up that high but given most times it happened it gave me a decided advantage cos no bugger would try to tackle the guy who just nutted a hockey ball and was now in possession of said and not that willing to give up my shot at goal. I don't get the whole mob thing with footy hooligans though I understand it's less an issue now, I just avoid the news if I know there's a big match on, it air really news anyway.

I forgot about this thread.
I concur football is shit. What is with the stupid plastic flags every petrol station tries to flog you. People that are buying only coffee in petrol stations.
Getting to work at 4:30 this morning parking in the road and putting cones out only for someone to drive around them at a ridiculous speed only to slow up alongside my new van and clip the mirror.
People that walk past me when working and say wrong colour or missed a bit. For god sake come up with something original
People that don't move over to allow you to join an almost deserted carriageway.
Builders that owe me over £11500 and then Email me as if nothing has happened.
And many many more.

People that come haring down the slip road, get to the same speed as you are travelling and then expect you to change lanes so they can join the carriage way. It is a filter lane and they are supposed to filter  >:( >:( And then when they are getting to the end of the slip road, they glance across at you, as to say, "i am running out of slip road and what are you going to do about it".

Rant over!

That almost feels aimed at me. Just to clarify I don't do that as that drives me crackers too.
People that scream down the outside lane and dive in front of you at the last second to exit the carriageway rather then drop in behind you.

If you run out of slip road your supposed to go up the hard shoulder. Stopping will cause a pile up.

Yep was working this morning, reminded me of the RAF celebration yesterday and a 100 aircraft flying over Her Majesty pad. What was the cost of all that? Good use of pubic money? I would question that!

Anything to do with royalty is a waste of money, bunch of free loaders, haven't done a proper days work in their life, and yet millions queue for hours just to catch a glimse of them, i'm obviously in the minority. Vive Le Republic !!
