I think I'll be twiddling my thumbs too today.
We're forecast to reach 39C today and I'm not pushing a lawnmower round in that.

Hi Daveyy and welcome.
Is your bike a CB550 F1 or a 500/4?
There seems to be some confusion on the board.

Bulletproof springs to mind.

It's up and a bugger to find once you've started riding!

That's a SOHC CB125S and was my first "proper" bike which I got in 1976 and took my test on. This is a later one fitted with Honda's cable operated front disc brake like the CB200.
The engines are pretty good but there are a couple of things to look out for:
There is no oil filter. Instead it has a centrifugal filter on the right hand end of the crank and this needs cleaning regularly however the clutch case needs to come off. It's not a difficult job but nobody ever does it.
There are no camshaft bearings. The cam runs in the head itself so if there's any hint of oil starvation the cam picks up on the bearing surface and the only fix is a replacement head.
The cam chain tensioner is manually adjusted and again tends to get neglected.
I really enjoyed my 125S and it was a great first bike.
I haven't seen one for years and have no idea what parts availability is like now.

If that's the original paint I think it's an F1 tank. The F2 had stripes on similar to the 400 F2 tank shown above.

How about "Bikeless in Australia"?.
Weather wise, we're just going into spring and last week was cold, windy and very wet.
I watched the AFL Grand Final which was up the road in Melbourne and they even had hail during the match.
The countryside where we're staying is very green and looks nice but that'll change by Christmas as the temperatures rise.
There are a few charred trees around here from the fires last year and there'll be a high risk of fires this year too but there's been a lot of State activity with a big enquiry since "Black Saturday" as they call it,so hopefully there'll be more and quicker warnings of any problems.
Started looking on Ebay to try and get a feel for what's out there. Seen a coupe of nice 400/4's already.
There seem to be a lot of old bikes around. They don't salt their roads so corrosion isn't such a problem as it is in the UK so hopefully I'll get something nice. Got to get a job first.
Keep you posted.

Hi again.
We've now been in Melbourne for 2 weeks and have finally got some rather slow access to the internet so here I am.
Still house hunting at the moment but once that's done I can start looking seriously for a job and some wheels. Hopefully a nice old Honda.
I'll keep you posted.

I'll still keep visiting the site.
I've sold the 550 and it'll be interesting to see what I find out there. They don't have to salt their roads out there so corrosion is less of an issue.
I've already seen a few interesting items on Aus Ebay.

I've always nodded but it seems to be a pastime that's in decline.
