CB500/550 / right foot peg fitting cb550 F1
« on: December 05, 2019, 02:09:54 PM »
Hi all, bought bike in bits and on to fitting the right side foot peg. It seems to me that it goes between the engine and frame because the rear lower mounting bolt isn't long enough for it to fit on the outside of frame. Only problem is the gap is too narrow for the peg.
Am I missing something obvious ...wrong bolt, wrong peg (although left side is fine)

Thanks Phil

Cheers Trigger, I have heard that the pods are a problem but Iam dealing with a £50 project bike that came already 'cafe racered ' basically an engine ,frame, wheels, tank and forks and nothing else....and Iam on a budget !

CB500/550 / 550 F1 pod air filters

Hi all
Probably an old topic
Looking for pod air filters to fit my 1976 550 F1
All I can find to fit are flat pancake style ones used for some small Chinese machines and quad bikes
Anyone know if these are suitable ?

Hi all
Probably been asked before but when running a 4 into 1 exhaust and pod air filters what do people recommend about main jet size ? I have 4 new jets that came in kits that are marked 100.

Thanks Phil

CB500/550 / CB 550 points or electronic
« on: February 28, 2019, 01:21:04 PM »
Hi all
Engine nearly rebuilt in my 1976 project Honda cb550.
Starting to think about getting it running.
Not much good with electrics but fortunately my neighbour is !
Whats the best option, original points ignition or a new electronic system.
I have nothing except the old points, no wires relays coils switches ....nowt !
Have talked briefly with neighbour and Motogadget  was mentioned, expensive but compared to sourcing all the bits needed would it be more straight forward ?
Anybody used it, any views ?
Thanks Phil

Ey up moorey, Iam using Blands of Monk Bretton here in Barnsley. Seem reasonable but its taking a while, used them before for some work on my old Guzzis.

Hi all
I am new to this site but had motor bikes for the last 40 plus years.
This latest one , my 1976 CB 550 F1 is a real project !
Bought for £50 its consists of a frame ,engine, both wheels, tank, forks and cafe racer seat hump, and thats it !
I am not restoring it, but probably going down the street tracker route as the rear sub frame has already been cut and there are so many parts missing, also my old back can't do the racer position for too long.
I've had a few Hondas in the past...
CB 250, early 80s
TL 125
400 Dream (the fat one)
Transalp 2006
1999 Fireblade 900
I've also had a couple of old Harleys, Buell 900, Kawasaki 750LTD, 1960 Enfield Constellation.
My current bikes are
Moto Guzzi G5 1979
Moto Guzzi SP1000 1978
and a Yamaha Diversion street tracker I did a couple of winters ago.
Anyhow off to the garage to list my bits for David Silver, and phone to see how the barrels and head are doing at the local engineering shop, (hope the wife doesn't see the bills)
Ok
Take care
Phil
