Title: Assorted leak trouble
Post by: alexdecker on August 18, 2022, 07:38:48 PM
Hey all

Just got Julie’s rebuild kit for my oil pump, and it aaalmost solved all my problems. It would seem after tonights ride that a little drop or two is still coming out. It’s pretty clear it’s coming from the oil pump cover. I handtightened those shiny new screws, as I couldn’t find torque specs anywhere. How tight does these need to be? And what can I do if that doesn’t remedy the problem?

Secondly, I have a weird leak, and I can’t find the source. It’s basically only on one or two fins in the right side of the engine. It’s in the middle of the fin, and nothing in the front or back. It’s pretty clear from the picture, and there is pretty much nothing else than what can be seen in the picture. I can’t figure out where this oil/fluid is coming from! Any experience with this?

Wrong screws holding the end caps on but thats not the leak, try taking end cap off and see if there is oil round the bracket it bolts to, supposed to be a soft alloy washer between bracket and cam cover as oil comes up there

I will check! The screws are part of a stainless steel screw replacement kit I bought for the entire thing  :)

Thanks Julie! Thats just about a little over hand tight Id recon. Will correct and report back. I have a feeling I never should have opened that oil pump in the first place…

It's always important to open the pump up Alex,  inspect it for signs of damage caused by any debris that has been going around the engine and replace the O rings. So many people don't bother doing it when they overhaul the engine. For the short time it takes and the small cost involved,  its worth doing.
