Title: Powder coating the front hubs on my 500.

I'm planning to take my 500 hubs to CWC for the wheel builds in the next few weeks.
Chatting to them a couple of weeks ago they seemed to be pushing for Ceracoat rather than a chrome finish powder coating.
One aspect was that it is thinner & hard wearing.

That had me thinking about how far the coating should go on the disc side & on the Speedometer drive side. Obviuosly not on the taper where the disc fits - would it be an issue if on the speedometer drive side they did the face where the drive plate sits?

That's a bit of a rare hub there Ted, the slots are very useful for those doing the twin front disc setup as the slots are the locating lugs for the speedo drive.

You could try chrome ceramic coating, like the carb plate I sold you. It's called Cermakrome. Camcoat do it in Warrington if your stuck finding somewhere. It's a lot thinner than powder coating and I'd refrain from powder coating the flanges where the disc fits TBH in powder but ok in ceramic.

I had a powder coated hub on one of my 550s and it caused fitting problems because of the thickness of the paint. Ceracote might be better.

Ted, what about polishing it and then using a clear cerakote?

TBH that would be a big task for me especially the inner ribbed section of the hubs - my 400 hubs were powder coated by CWC in a chrome type finish - very happy with the finish except they did not coat the front right side of the hub where the speedometer plate fits - that left me with a bare section that I had to paint to hide the hard edge.

I'll post a photo later as it's a bit of a mess to sort out in the future or by the next owner.
