CB350/400 / Re: 50th Anniverasry CB400/4 Feature in CBG

I know he is in business to make money but it would be a nice gesture if he gave a discount to VJMC or forum members especially considering all the free publicity he receives from the articles and the people who restore the bikes using his parts! Maybe a 10% sale of parts in January when we are all busy getting on with our restorations, just something would be nice (and I don't mean free P&P!).

UKPete on this forum summed it up succinctly "basically, he wouldn't give you the steam of his own p*ss"  Bit harsh I know but I think club discount would be a great gesture...in Grahams write-up Tippets of Surbiton  gave him a 10% club discount.

Here is the link to the resto articles.

This link will self-destruct by this evening so grab it while you can.

CB500/550 / CB500K2 carb bit
« on: Today at 08:55:25 AM »
I give my wife bits to sell on eBay to keep her sweet and to promote tolerance of by obsession.

She listed a 500 carb plate and lifter rod and someone message to see if she has brass bushes etc ...see pic ..but I can't even see anything like that on my own set of 627B carbs so she can't really help him out. I thought he may have been getting confused with later PD carbs (that I have no experience with) but he says its for a 500K2... She told him to join us on here and ask for help  but it's difficult conversing details on eBay (phone/email etc)  for the fear that eBay police get onto you for attempting to deal without going through them. This would deffo have been a question for Ken !

I do recognise the other bits.

Problem is Dave ..there are SO many articles on the 400F it's like old hat now ..  regurgitating the same old content from other magazines previous issues..

I think they should just reprint my mate Graham Curtis's 400F restoration project he did for Classic Motorcycle Mechanics back in the mid '90's and perhaps bring it back up to date again with extra features. Like listing sources of the best resto stuff not available back then. Like Diego (pikis) Decals for the tank etc. and also telling prospective buyers that, to date and as far as I am aware,  nobody sells repro double-skinned exhaust headers ...unless you count the exclusive run done by Sankei this year but as far as I know not being sold by the likes of Yamiya, DS or CMS etc. They could also seek out the girls in the publicity shots to add a bit more glamour to the occasion. May be knocking on a bit now though.

They would also, for a 50th year celebration,  have been better doing a feature on the  UK Press Bike JGC 606N , owned by a member on here IMHO. But perhaps that may be in the pipeline for another magazine, who knows.

Difficult to use FB when you’re not a member.

I know what you mean about FB Steve but closed groups like the CB72/77 UK are truly excellent ..with absolutely no nonsense (unlike the 400 and 750 ones where everyone is a so-called expert) ...if you own a CB72 or other early 1960s Honda and not a member you are seriously missing out IMHO.

BTW my pic was from the mega money push-mile bike
.was it £16k ? It went for at auction at Silverstone Auctions. Seems the routing was all wrong.Always had my doubts about that bikes authenticity. Wonder who bought it?
Ash, you'd have got the Glensanda boat from Port Appin wouldn't you? They're lovely all weather fast boats...Foster Yeoman have sold the quarry now but it's still working and I used to enjoy fish and chips at McTavish's too but the place is now a shop...I can see Glensanda from my house and now and then can hear the dull thud of blasting 😄👍
From memory (a long time ago now  ;D) Foster Yeoman had their own boat and it went from Ledaig near Benderloch to Glensanda. I seem to remember that the stone  produced at that time mostly went by boat to be Tilbury. It was a bit of an unusual job because our arch rivals Goodyear had sold them a conveyor belt splice failure monitoring system ..that didn't work  :-[  By some strange 'old pals' act between the top brass where I worked and Goodyear in Akron, Ohio, yours truly was sent there to re-design the electronics to get it to work properly. A long drive from East Yorkshire though in a 1.8 Escort Diesel !

It's an LpH one you need for you UK model  Steve. I may have a bottom part (single throttle cable) if you can get hold of the black knob.

If not Yamiya do them repro  ... (Steves existing  K1 switch is the LpH UK type)

Great Progress Dave..that is gonna be some showpiece when you finish it.

I wonder if The Classic Bike Shop are getting their silencers from the latest incarnation of Brituro?

I have been revisiting my '75 400F over the past 9 months or so ..I rebuilt in 1986 and never started it since. At the time I cut corners a bit like using Takasago Suzuki branded wheel rims and plating  a lot of stuff nickel as there wasn't any real zinc kits around then. Been putting it back to bog standard but taken a lot more effort than I thought to get all the little bits correct ..e.g. it now has proper DID unscripted rims and everything is re-plated in BZP that was previously in nickel.. Hoping to start it up soon...will post on here when I do.

A few years back I used the now defunct (for regular punters) V888 form .. where you sent a cheque for £5 and they photocopied you every document they have on your vehicle. Mine has had about 8 owners (cost me £110 in '85) and it transpired it was the first demonstrator at Cowies in Sunderland (MBR 491P) ... the very bike I used to stare at in their window when I lived up there in '75.

One thing I still need to do is put all of the handlebar wires back (they all connect in a big rubber boot under the tank) Do you know how they are routed? This pic attached is the best I can find.

I’m on a cruise around Iceland (not on my bike).

I’ve seen two bikes in 10 days. Not really surprising given the climate and remoteness.

However, today we are in the fishing town of Vestmannaeyjar on the island of Heimar.

Wandering up a random backstreet I saw a Black Bomber on the back of a trailer, so wandered over to say hello.

Inside I found the Drullusokkar Motorcycle Club.

Also with these

The owner proudly showed me his David Silver mug and catalogue from a few years back when he visited the UK.

He’s on FB (but I’m not), so go and give him a

I used to stay at a Hotel in Benderloch and also one at the Falls or Lora in the early 1990's, when I was doing work on an electronic monitoring system at Foster Yeoman Quarry at Glensanda, which wasn't accessible by road, only by ferry. Almost everything on site was from RS Components as I remember. A beautiful part of the world and I also used to enjoy eating haggis at McTavish's Kitchen in Oban. :D

Always remember going through a place called ArdLui   ...had visions of a tough Italian/Scottish bruiser.  ;D
